[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Urban management and survey departments have begun investigating the feasibility of acquiring data from various laser scanning systems for urban infrastructure measurements and assessments. Roadside objects such as cars, trees, traffic poles, pedestrians, bicycles and e-bicycles describe the static and dynamic urban information available for acquisition. Because of the unstructured nature of 3D point clouds, the rich targets in complex road scenes, and the varying scales of roadside objects, finely classifying these roadside objects from various point clouds is a challenging task. In this paper, we integrate two representations of roadside objects, point clouds and multiview images to propose a point-group-view network named PGVNet for classifying roadside objects into cars, trees, traffic poles, and small objects (pedestrians, bicycles and e-bicycles) from generalized point clouds. To utilize the topological information of the point clouds, we propose a graph attention convolution operation called AtEdgeConv to mine the relationship among the local points and to extract local geometric features. In addition, we employ a hierarchical view-group-object architecture to diminish the redundant information between similar views and to obtain salient viewwise global features. To fuse the local geometric features from the point clouds and the global features from multiview images, we stack an attention-guided fusion network in PGVNet. In particular, we quantify and leverage the global features as an attention mask to capture the intrinsic correlation and discriminability of the local geometric features, which contributes to recognizing the different roadside objects with similar shapes. To verify the effectiveness and generalization of our methods, we conduct extensive experiments on six test datasets of different urban scenes, which were captured by different laser scanning systems, including mobile laser scanning (MLS) systems, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based laser scanning (ULS) systems and backpack laser scanning (BLS) systems. Experimental results, and comparisons with state-of-the-art methods, demonstrate that the PGVNet model is able to effectively identify various cars, trees, traffic poles and small objects from generalized point clouds, and achieves promising performances on roadside object classifications, with an overall accuracy of 95.76%. [Termes IGN] organisme cartographique nationalRésumé : (auteur) Digital Twins are realistic digital representation of physical objects and are differentiated from traditional models by the live connection between the digital and the physical worlds, often enabled by sensors. They provide insights into the physical world for decision makers, for example via simulation, and can be used to directly alter the physical world without manual intervention. While they have their origins in manufacturing, they are increasingly being used within the built environment, by both public and private sectors. Increasingly city-wide and National Digital Twins are also being considered, to underpin local, municipal and central government decision making. For these emerging Digital Twins, location data such as that provided by National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies (NMCAs) has the potential to underpin Digital Twin modelling. It thus becomes important for NMCAs to better understand Digital Twins in order to determine whether current data offerings can meet this new demand and how best to support the various activities. As a first stage investigation under the auspices of EuroSDR, this paper explores challenges and opportunities for NMCAs and others working in the location sector, presenting the result of an international survey and workshop on these topics. We conclude that there is significant overlap with existing challenges within the geospatial community and those required to better support Digital Twins - e.g. interoperability and data management and governance. Additionally, the opportunity for a broader understanding and uptake of location data offered by Digital Twins should not be ignored. [Termes IGN] scène urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Urban scenes consist of visual and semantic features and exhibit spatial relationships among land-use types (e.g. industrial areas are far away from the residential zones). This study applied a graph convolutional network with neighborhood information (henceforth, named the neighbour supporting graph convolutional neural network), to learn spatial relationships for urban scene classification. Furthermore, a co-occurrence analysis with visual and semantic features proceeded to improve the accuracy of urban scene classification. We tested the proposed method with the fifth ring road of Beijing with an overall classification accuracy of 0.827 and a Kappa coefficient of 0.769. In comparison with other methods, such as support vector machine, random forest, and general graph convolutional network, the case study showed that the proposed method improved about 10% in urban scene classification. Existing road network updating methods, whether trajectory-based (TB) or image-based (IB), do not integrate the characteristics of both types of data. This paper proposed and implemented an incremental update method for rapid road network checking and updating. A composite update framework for road networks is established, which integrates trajectory data and UAV remote sensing imagery. The research proposed utilizing connectivity between adjacent matched points to solve the problem of updating problematic road segments in networks based on the features of the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) map-matching method in identifying new road segments. Deep learning is used to update the local road network in conjunction with the flexible and high-precision characteristics of UAV remote sensing. Additionally, the proposed method is evaluated against two baseline methods through extensive experiments based on real-world trajectories and UAV remote sensing imagery. The results show that our method has higher extraction accuracy than the TB method and faster updates than the IB method. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The objective of this study is to predict the near-future flooding status of road segments based on their own and adjacent road segments' current status through the use of deep learning framework on fine-grained traffic data. Predictive flood monitoring for situational awareness of road network status plays a critical role to support crisis response activities such as evaluation of the loss of access to hospitals and shelters. Existing studies related to near-future prediction of road network flooding status at road segment level are missing. Using fine-grained traffic speed data related to road sections, this study designed and implemented three spatio-temporal graph convolutional network (STGCN) models to predict road network status during flood events at the road segment level in the context of the 2017 hurricane Harvey in Harris County (Texas, USA). Model 1 consists of two spatio-temporal blocks considering the adjacency and distance between road segments, while model 2 contains an additional elevation block to account for elevation difference between road segments. Model 3 includes three blocks for considering the adjacency and the product of distance and elevation difference between road segments. The analysis tested the STGCN models and evaluated their prediction performance. Our results indicated that model 1 and model 2 have reliable and accurate performance for predicting road network flooding status in near future (e.g., 2–4 h) with model precision and recall values larger than 98% and 96%, respectively. With reliable road network status predictions in floods, the proposed model can benefit affected communities to avoid flooded roads and the emergency management agencies to implement evacuation and relief resource delivery plans.
