[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The use of remote sensing data with other ancillary data in a geographic information system (GIS) environment is useful to delineate groundwater potential zonation map of Ken-Betwa river linking area of Bundelkhand. Various themes of information such as geomorphology, land use/land cover, lineament extracted from digital processing of Landsat (ETM+) satellite data of the year 2005 and drainage map were extracted from survey of India topographic sheets, and elevation, slope data were generated from shuttle radar topography mission (SRTM) digital elevation model (DEM). These themes were overlaid to generate groundwater potential zonation (GWPZ) map of the area. The final map of the area shows different zones of groundwater prospects, viz., good (5.22% of the area), moderate (65.83% of the area) poor (15.31% of the area) and very poor (13.64% of area). [Termes IGN] tomographieRésumé : (Auteur) The impacts of the August 21, 2003 geomagnetic storm on the ionosphere over China have been first investigated by using the so-called computerized ionospheric tomography (CIT) technique and the observations of the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China. Tomographic results show that the main ionospheric effects of this geomagnetic storm over China are as follows: (1) the negative storm phase effect appears in the F region and (2) the positive storm phase effect occurs above the F region. Meanwhile, some key features in the ionospheric structure have been revealed in the ionospheric images during the storm; this includes the disturbances and an elongated region of the reduced electron density at the latitude around 32°N. Statistical comparisons are carried out to confirm the reliability of the global-navigation-satellite-system-based CIT reconstruction results using the profile obtained from ionosonde observations. [Termes IGN] Setchouan (Chine)Résumé : (Auteur) In the early stages of post-disaster response, a quick and reliable damage assessment map is essential. As time is a critical factor, automated damage mapping from remotely sensed images is the expected solution to drastically reduce data acquisition and computation time. Recently, high-resolution satellite images, such as QuickBird data, have been in high demand by damage assessment analysts and disaster management practitioners. However, the existing automated mapping approaches hardly accommodate such high-resolution data. This research aims at developing a new context-based automated approach for earthquake damage mapping from high-resolution satellite images. Relevant contextual information (including structure, shape, size, edge texture, spatial relations) describing the damage situation is formulated and up-scaled on a morphological scale-space. Speed optimization is achieved by parallel processing implementation. The developed approach was tested with two QuickBird images acquired on 26 June 2005 and 3 June 2008 over YingXiu town, Sichuan, China, which suffered the devastating 12 May 2008 earthquake. In comparison to the reference, the developed mapping approach could achieve over 80% accuracy for computation of the damage ratio. Future research is planned to test the approach on various disaster cases for both optical and radar images using a grid-computing platform towards a cost-effective damage mapping solution. [Termes IGN] Setchouan (Chine)Résumé : (Auteur) The Wenchuan Earthquake occurred on 12 May 2008 followed by frequent aftershocks. The earthquake suddenly caused heavy damage to roads, bridges, buildings and communication facilities. Two B4101 Citation II remote sensing airplanes from the Chinese Academy of Sciences took off to monitor the region soon after the earthquake and collected images using a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) device and an optical ADS40 sensor. Using images obtained from airborne surveys, a damage consequence chain was mapped that provided information about the type of damage and its extent. This proved to be of great help for rescue operations and after earthquake reconstructions. We present details of airborne survey, images and mapping of damages caused by the earthquake and the use of such information for a rescue operation. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) The Satellite Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) has already demonstrated its potential to map co-, post- and inter-seismic deformation. This paper presents analysis of the surface-displacement field of the 12 May 2008 magnitude 8.0 Wenchuan Earthquake using the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) DInSAR. Six PALSAR interferograms of paths 471 to 476 are generated. A new approach, which uses the information of overlapping interferograms, has been developed to compensate for orbit error. The main advantage of this approach is that the calculation is performed without the need for phase unwrapping. Once the orbit error has been compensated for, the interferograms are then merged to form a single interferogram. The final mosaic of interferograms demonstrates a much more consistent co-seismic surface-displacement field than the original interferograms.
