[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) The purpose of this paper is to propose a new notion on prominent areas of a city defined by two types of comprehensive prominence for identifying urban spatial structure. Not only geometric attributes and topological attributes but also thematic attributes of irregular areas (e.g. districts of a city) are used to define these indices. In the paper, first the topological prominence related to geometric attributes such as size, location, and shape of areas is constructed by spatial weight matrix. Second, for finding comprehensive prominences, the principle axis factor model is adopted, and the first factor score is defined as the comprehensive prominence 1. Then, the proportion of thematic attributes of each area occupied in across the city is used to define the comprehensive prominence 2. Finally, we use these comprehensive prominences to extract some important regions in Matsudo City of Chiba Prefecture in Japan. The areas composing those regions show a high topological prominence, have a large population, have many offices, and are located around the train station. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : Auteur) Growing demand for efficient land use above and below the ground motivates the transition of cadastre and land-management systems from traditional two-dimensional systems to three-dimensional ones. This transition is required especially in sprawling urban areas that are turning into megacities. A major concern in realizing the 3D cadastre vision is the development of efficient methods for attaching the third dimension to the existing 2D systems. In this regard, airborne laser technology that offers direct acquisition of dense and accurate 3D data appears to be the optimal means for this objective. Integration of surface data into objects and shapes, however, requires handling discrepancies between both datasets, which in turn can lead to incorrect assignment of height information. We present herein a methodology for fusing airborne laser-scanning-derived data into existing 2D cadastral systems. We demonstrate this integration in urban environments comprising high-rise buildings and open areas. Analysis of the data sources shows the necessity for such transformation, while the results demonstrate the appropriateness of the proposed fusion concept. [Termes IGN] Rhénanie-Palatinat (Allemagne)Résumé : (Auteur) Management of megacities is a complex task which should be carried out on a sound basis of information. Decisions most often have to be taken in the dimensions of space and time. Availability of integrated spatial information services is thus important for policymakers, planners, and managers as well as for citizens and their organizations, irrespective of where they are in the world. The strategy followed by the INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community) initiative is a valuable information source for the development of principles and procedures in spatial information management, particularly environmental management. The work done within INSPIRE can also be used to develop specifically adapted solutions for the spatial and environmental information management of urban agglomerations, the megacities. This paper describes a good practice example of a German regional SDI—the approach implemented by Rhineland-Palatinate. The web-based implementation of this regional SDI supports the aim of the INSPIRE directive, namely, improving the usability of spatial data compiled by different authorities. The outlined procedures help to clarify which kind of information has to be provided in which format so that it enhances the understanding of the complex interactions between human activities and their environmental impacts, which are crucial particularly in megacities. The solution presented in this paper, therefore, can be seen as a prototype of a practical realization of a feasible SDI, which can be generalized to larger urban areas.
