This paper aims at designing a procedure able to cope with both types of changes by combining interferometric coherence and backscatter amplitude, and provide a semantically meaningful analysis of the changes detected in both city inner cores and suburban areas. Specifically, this paper focuses on detecting multi-dimensional changes in urban areas using a stack of repeat-pass SAR data sets from Sentinel-1A/B satellites. The proposed procedure jointly exploits amplitude and coherence time series to perform this task. SAR amplitude is used to extract changes about the urban extents, i.e. in 2D, while interferometric coherence is sensitive to the presence of buildings and to their size, i. e. to 3D changes. The proposed algorithm is tested using a time-series of two years of Sentinel-1 data, from May 2016 to October 2018, and in two different Chinese cities, Changsha and Hangzhou, with the aim to understand both the temporal evolution of the urban extents, and the changes within what is constantly classified as “urban” throughout the considered time period. [Termes IGN] système multi-agentsRésumé : (auteur) Immigration accounts for 80% of Switzerland's annual population growth, and therefore profoundly impacts demographics, and the attendant housing needs. As there are different possible future scenarios of immigration that will impact urban transformation in Switzerland, we have developed an agent-based dwellings model that, with reasonable computing time due to the use of the computer architecture of graphical processor units, can simulate for a time horizon of decades, the annual evolution of millions of individually characterised households. This dwellings model is coupled to an agent-based population model that simulates millions of individual population agents. We simulate different immigration scenarios, up to 2035, in the Swiss agglomeration of Lausanne. It is shown that the building capacity of the city of Lausanne will reach a limit in 2022, subsequently leading to more rapid growth in the periphery of the agglomeration Lausanne. The construction of new residential dwellings consists primarily of smaller apartments that are more attractive to the demographic of smaller households; this demographic tends to move to the periphery. As families tend to move towards the city centre due to the availability of services, the city and periphery show opposite evolutions over time in the numbers of family households compared to numbers of singles and couples households. The periphery requires an increase in the number and typology of services targeted at the growing demographic of smaller households. Further as most workplaces are still be located in the city centre, the planned improvement of transportation infrastructure in the agglomeration should primarily focus on improved access to the periphery. These observations underline the profound impact of the typology of immigration on the demand for suitable housing, and thus on urban development. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) A ‘fit-for-purpose’ approach is developed, tested and presented for cadastral surveys through increased owners’ participation using new technology and m-government services. Three case studies are reported, for urban, suburban and rural areas, with a combined use of two mobile applications: a commercial software package (ESRI’s Collector for ArcGIS) and an opensource self-developed application named BoundGeometry. The parameters of time, quality and accuracy are assessed and the identified difficulties are classified. It is concluded that the method is applicable both in developed and developing countries, and each time adjustable to the available infrastructure. [Termes IGN] SerbieRésumé : (Auteur) One of the main issues in the current suburban development is mono-functionality. Suburban formats that mainly function as “bedroom communities” are large housing estates, urban sprawl and suburban satellite housing – former villages surrounding large socialist cities. This paper deals with some urban design principles which encourage unsustainable usage of land at the periphery of cities and cause the “bedroom community” phenomenon. A comparative analysis is performed of three suburban areas where the issue of mono-functionality was/ is present, located within the administrative area of the City of Niš, Serbia: large housing estate in Krive Livade neighbourhood, sprawling neighborhoods Podvinik and Vinik, and former rural settlements Donji Komren and Gornji Komren. The quality of urban design is evaluated using four criteria related to the physical and functional component of urban structure: central urban functions, population densities, public spaces adjacent to central urban functions, and neighborhood traffic. The initial hypothesis of this research is that the mono-functionality represents an unsustainable form of development and that the city needs a polycentric spatial structure. The traditional compact neighborhood with a center, which is pedestrian oriented and has a diversity of uses, is instated as a good quality urban area model. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, an algorithm for the extraction of road networks in suburban areas is presented. The algorithm is region-based and uses high-resolution colour infrared images as well as, optionally, a digital surface model (DSM). The road extraction starts with a segmentation using the normalised cuts algorithm; afterwards the segments are grouped. Road sections are extracted from the grouped segments. Road sections that are likely to belong to the same road are connected to subgraphs in the next step. To eliminate false connections in the subgraphs, context objects such as vehicles, buildings and trees are employed. The remaining road strings, represented by their centre lines, are connected to a road network. The process employs combinations of radiometric and geometric features, derived from knowledge about the appearance of roads in suburban areas. Results are presented for two test data-sets, acquired by different sensors. A quantitative analysis is performed for the quality of the road extraction as well as the topological quality of the extracted network.
