[Termes IGN] spécification de contenuRésumé : (Auteur) Paper maps are generally planned for use under normal circumstances. One of the exceptions is orienteering maps, which are used in special circumstances, namely, at sport events such as running, when poor visibility and bad weather conditions may considerably reduce the legibility. When the drawing specifications of orienteering maps were created and when later new forms and disciplines of orienteering events were invented, the clear legibility of printed maps was one of the most important aspects. The International Orienteering Federation keeps the aim of preserving the characteristics of the different event and discipline formats by ensuring the legibility of the event maps. [Termes IGN] géomètreRésumé : (Auteur) Jean-Yves Pirlot, since 2010 head of the Council of European Geodetic Surveyors (CLGE – the acronym stems from the French: Comité de Liaison des Géomètres Européens), sees one important role for the organisation in being proactively involved in legislation concerning surveyors in the European Union. ‘Otherwise,’ he says, ‘decisions are taken without consulting the group of professionals. Therefore we need to raise our profile in order to be on the radar all the time.’ The CLGE resides in the House of the European Surveyor and Geo-Information, a stately old building in the middle of Brussels and close to the centre of power. CLGE represents national surveyors’ associations of 33 member countries within the wider arena of the Council of Europe, which consists of an area larger than just the European Union. From the latter, though, all 27 member states are represented. This means CLGE represents the interests of almost 50,000 geodetic surveyors spread across the entire continent, making CLGE their leading representative body. [Termes IGN] infrastructure mondiale des données localiséesRésumé : (Auteur) The Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association (GSDI) promotes international cooperation and collaboration in support of local, national and international spatial data infrastructure (SDI) developments that will allow nations to better address social, economic and environmental issues of pressing importance. Current president of the GSDI is Associate Professor Abbas Rajabifard, director of the Centre for SDIs and Land Administration at the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at the University of Melbourne. His research interests include planning, management and implementation of spatial data infrastructures (including marine and seamless SDI), spatially-enabled government and society, SDI and concepts of virtual jurisdictions, SDI and enabling platforms, and SDI capacity building. GIM International spoke to him about the trends and challenges in SDI.
