[Termes IGN] répartition géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Given the precedent findings of health inequalities in Hamilton, ON and the rapid increase of elderly populations in Canada as a whole, this article looks for areas of deficient health services within the Hamilton region, characterized as “healthcare deserts,” and examines the possible implications with respect to the residing senior populations. Maps were constructed by overlaying median household income and percentage of population over 65 with the locations of healthcare services frequented by seniors. Qualitative analysis revealed that the distribution of senior services has no correlation to the senior population, and that senior services tend to be concentrated in lower income areas. This research has exposed the existence of healthcare deserts in most regions of Hamilton except the downtown core. Since seniors are less able to travel longer distances, living far away from these services could act as a barrier, inhibiting access and reducing quality of life. Concerns regarding accessibility of health services will become more important as this demographic grows, so mapping services in this manner can inform urban planning to minimize the impacts of these deserts. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) This research presents an intelligent planning support system based on multi-agent systems for spatial urban land use planning. The proposed system consists of two main phases: a pre-negotiation phase and an automated negotiation phase. The pre-negotiation phase involves interaction between human actors and intelligent software agents in order to elicit the actors’ social preferences. The agents employ social value orientation theory, which is rooted in social psychology, in order to model actors’ social preferences. The automated negotiation phase involves negotiation among autonomous software agents, the aim being to achieve consensus about the spatial problem on behalf of the relevant actors and using the information obtained.
This study employs a computationally effective Bayesian learning technique, along with social value orientation theory, to design socially rational intelligent agents who work on behalf of real actors. The proposed system is applied to a real world urban land use planning case study. Human actors participate in a pre-negotiation phase, and their social preferences are elicited by intelligent software agents through a number of interactions. Then, software agents come together to engage in an automated negotiation phase and eventually reach an agreement on the spatial configuration of urban land uses on behalf of the actors. The results of the study show that the proposed system is effective at performing an automated negotiation, plus that the final plan – which is the output of the automated negotiation – produces higher social utility and better spatial land use configurations for the agents.Numéro de notice : A2017-240 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : GEOMATIQUE/URBANISME Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1080/13658816.2016.1263306 En ligne : http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/13658816.2016.1263306 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=85175

[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Exploring changes in land use land cover (LULC) to understand the urban heat island (UHI) effect is valuable for both communities and local governments in cities in developing countries, where urbanization and industrialization often take place rapidly but where coherent planning and control policies have not been applied. This work aims at determining and analyzing the relationship between LULC change and land surface temperature (LST) patterns in the context of urbanization. We first explore the relationship between LST and vegetation, man-made features, and cropland using normalized vegetation, and built-up indices within each LULC type. Afterwards, we assess the impacts of LULC change and urbanization in UHI using hot spot analysis (Getis-Ord Gi∗ statistics) and urban landscape analysis. Finally, we propose a model applying non-parametric regression to estimate future urban climate patterns using predicted land cover and land use change. Results from this work provide an effective methodology for UHI characterization, showing that (a) LST depends on a nonlinear way of LULC types; (b) hotspot analysis using Getis Ord Gi∗ statistics allows to analyze the LST pattern change through time; (c) UHI is influenced by both urban landscape and urban development type; (d) LST pattern forecast and UHI effect examination can be done by the proposed model using nonlinear regression and simulated LULC change scenarios. We chose an inner city area of Hanoi as a case-study, a small and flat plain area where LULC change is significant due to urbanization and industrialization. The methodology presented in this paper can be broadly applied in other cities which exhibit a similar dynamic growth. Our findings can represent an useful tool for policy makers and the community awareness by providing a scientific basis for sustainable urban planning and management.
