If data capture falls, then positions along the tracks are unknown. The particular problem we address in this paper is to create tracks of moving objects with missing data. We implement and test two techniques that create continuous tracks of two primate species (Ateles geoffroyi, the red spider monkey, and Cebus capucinus, the whitefaced capuchin). Continuous tracks were needed to calculate home range and to analyze daily ranging patterns for each species. Establishing continuous tracks of primates through field data alone, however, was impossible due to challenging field conditions. The results of the analysis using tracks with interpolated positions helped establish that Ateles tend to move directly to their destination while Cebus tended to follow a more wandering track. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we derive two techniques for the classification of Multifrequency/multitemporal polarimetric SAR images, based respectively on a statistical and on a neural approach. Both techniques are especially designed to exploit the spatial structure of the observed scene, thus allowing more stable classification results. Such techniques are useful when looking at medium - to - scale features, like the boundaries between urban and non-urban areas. They are applied to a set of SIR-C images of a urban area, to test their effectiveness in the identification of the different classes that compose the observed scene. A lower and an upper bound to the classification performance are introduced to characterise their limits. They correspond respectively to pixel-by-pixel classification and to the joint classification of the pixels belonging to the different classes identified in the ground truth. The results achieved with the two approaches are quantitatively analysed by comparing them to the ground truth. Moreover, a hybrid approach is presented, where the homogeneous regions identified through statistical segmentation are classified using a neuro-fuzzy technique. Finally, a quantitative analysis of the results achieved with all the proposed techniques is carried out, showing that their classification performance is much higher than the lower bound and reasonably close to the upper bound. This is a consequence of their effectiveness in the exploitation of the spatial information. [Termes IGN] positionnement par GPSRésumé : (Auteur) A landslide movement was detected as geometric misregistration in image matching between two SPOT HRV panchromatic image data of different acquisition dates. The test site is an active landslide in Itaya area, Yamagata Prefecture, northern Japan. The average rate of the landslide movement is approximately 1 cm per day based upon differential GPS measurements. Pixel level and subpixel level image matching was applied to an HRV image pair obtained on I November 1987 and 29 October 1993. As a result, the landslide movement was successfully detected as misregistration vectors between the two HRV scenes. The displacement is approximately 20m to 30m over the 6-year period between 1987 and 1993 and is consistent with the landslide movement inferred from the GPS measurements. SPOT4-Vegetafion 10-day composites from 1998 to 2000 were used for the generation of a cloud free sub-regional mosaic image. Pixel selection was based on minimum values in the short-wave (monthly composites) and near-infrared spectral bands (annual composites), providing a maximum discrimination between forest and non-forest. A forest cover map was derived from digital classification of the dataset. The classification result was validated by comparison with the interpretation of 19 Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) reference sites distributed over the sub-region. Forest area estimates were derived from the map and compared to Forest Resources Assessment 2000 data compiled by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Results show that the new coarse resolution satellite sensor can provide sufficient information for mapping of tropical forest cover at the regional and sub-regional level.
