Monitoring the plant on small water bodies can be done from the shore. On large lakes like Lake Victoria, however, this no longer works adequately. Remote sensing techniques can provide a means to monitor the presence of water hyacinth on large lakes. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) techniques are not hampered by cloud cover and can produce good quality data, well-suited for the inventory of water hyacinth. [Termes IGN] zonage (urbanisme)Résumé : (Auteur) This paper concerns the problem of matching incompatible zonal geographies, for example in the context of comparing census outputs over time. The automated zoning procedure (AZP) proposed by Openshaw (1977) is reviewed and extended to permit its application to the intersection of two zonal systems. A population stress statistic is proposed which may be used in the extended AZP algorithm in order to maximise the match between two zonal geographies. An implementation of this approach is described, and illustrated by reference to UK Census data. [Termes IGN] vidéo numériqueRésumé : (Auteur) Knowing "where" is a key question for the mobile generation. In the German city of Darmstadt, a new integrated service "Da-Mobil" is providing all necessary information to answer the "where is" question for citizens and visitors. Whether they're on the Web, or about in Darmstadt with their mobile devices, users can search for facilities such as doctors, restaurants, hotels, and cinemas within a certain geographic area of the city. A balanced mixture of geo-knowledge, supported by Location Based Services, mobile technology and routing data can give the right answers and find the right ways through the mazes of the modern world.
