[Termes IGN] traitement parallèleRésumé : (Auteur) Location siting is an important part of service provision, with much potential to impact operational efficiency, safety, security, system reliability, etc. A class of location models seeks to optimize coverage of demand for service that is continuously distributed across space. Decision-making and planning contexts include police/fire resource allocation for a community, siting cellular towers to support cell phone signal transmission, locating emergency warning sirens to alert the public of severe weather and other related dangers, and many others as well. When facilities can be sited anywhere in continuous space to provide coverage to an entire region, this is a very computationally challenging problem to solve because potential demand for service is everywhere and there are an infinite number of potential facility sites to consider. This article develops a new parallel solution approach for this location coverage optimization problem through an iterative bounding scheme on multi-core architectures. The developed approach is applied to site emergency warning sirens in Dublin, Ohio, and fire stations in Elk Grove, California. Results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach, enabling real-time analysis and planning. This work illustrates that the integration of cyberinfrastructure can significantly improve computational efficiency in solving challenging spatial optimization problems, fitting the themes of this special issue: cyberinfrastructure, GIS, and spatial optimization. [Termes IGN] trajectographie par GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) Personal trajectory data are increasingly collected for a variety of academic and recreational pursuits. As access to location data widens and locations are linked to other information repositories, individuals become increasingly vulnerable to identification. The quality and precision of spatially linked attributes are essential to accurate analysis; yet, there is a trade-off between privacy and geographic data resolution. Obfuscation of point data, or masking, is a solution that aims to protect privacy and maximize preservation of spatial pattern. Trajectory data, with multiple locations recorded for an entity over time, is a strong personal identifier. This study explores the balance between privacy and spatial pattern resulting from two methods of obfuscation for personal GPS data: grid masking and random perturbation. These methods are applied to travel survey GPS data in the greater metropolitan regions of Chicago and Atlanta. The rate of pattern correlation between the original and masked data sets declines as the distance thresholds for masking increase. Grid masking at the 250-m threshold preserves route anonymity better than other methods and distance thresholds tested, but preserves spatial pattern least. This study also finds via linear regression that median trip speed and road density are significant predictors of trip anonymity. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (auteur) This paper addresses the problem of determining the location of a ground level image by using georeferenced overhead imagery. The input query image is assumed to be given with no metadata and the content of the image is to be matched to a priori constructed reference representations. The semantic breakdown of the content of the query image is provided through manual labeling; however, all processing involving the reference imagery and matching are fully automated. In this paper, a volumetric representation is proposed to fuse different modalities of overhead imagery and construct a 3D reference world. Attributes of this reference world such as orientation of the world surfaces, types of land cover, depth order of fronto-parallel surfaces are indexed and matched to the attributes of the surfaces manually marked on the query image. An exhaustive but highly parallelizable matching scheme is proposed and the performance is evaluated on a set of query images located in a coastal region in Eastern United States. The performance is compared to a baseline region reduction algorithm and to a landmark existence matcher that uses a 2D representation of the reference world. The proposed 3D geo-localization framework performs better than the 2D approach for 75 % of the query images.
