[Termes IGN] superposition de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Lidar has been established over the past few years as a mainstream tool for the acquisition of three dimensional point data. Besides the conventional mapping missions, lidar has proven to be very useful for a wide spectrum of applications such as forestry, urban planning, structural deformation analysis, and reverse engineering. In the context of a nation-wide dataset, it is safe to assume that multiple laser scanners are under different conditions to collect the data. Current registration and segmentation algorithms assume homogeneity in the local point density and accuracy which is an invalid assumption that cannot be tolerated. As a consequence of the wide range of lidar sensors currently available, it is becoming crucial to develop algorithms for the registration and segmentation of lidar data with significantly varying characteristics (i.e., varying point density and accuracy). In this paper, a methodology for the optimal registration and segmentation of heterogeneous lidar data is presented. An example of integrating airborne and terrestrial laser scans is presented and followed by a discussion of the pros of the integration process. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A vehicle mobility estimator has been developed to produce decision aid maps for projecting civil or military forces on operational theatres. Based on the exploitation of classical geographical sources (e.g. digital elevation models, optical images, and vector databases) and thematic sources (e.g. climate, meteorological, pedological and land cover databases), the system computes speed maps for different kinds of vehicles moving both on-road and off-road. Such computations are realized through a ground-vehicle interaction module that estimates the vehicle performance from experimental results, numerical simulations and empirical relationships. The system's architecture is built using a GIS interface that manages the data, the computation and the presentation layers. An operational version of this tool has been tested and validated on several operational theatres in France and in northern Africa. The results show good agreement between the predicted mobility performance of various vehicles and those observed on the field. A case study is presented to illustrate the mobility maps and demonstrate their relevance in the decision-making chain depending on different climate contexts. A short application to itinerary optimization is presented as a promising future application. [Termes IGN] signature spectraleRésumé : (Auteur) The goal of this paper is to apply graph cut (GC) theory to the classification of hyperspectral remote sensing images. The task is formulated as a labeling problem on Markov random field (MRF) constructed on the image grid, and GC algorithm is employed to solve this task. In general, a large number of user interactive strikes are necessary to obtain satisfactory segmentation results. Due to the spatial variability of spectral signatures, however, hyperspectral remote sensing images often contain many tiny regions. Labeling all these tiny regions usually needs expensive human labor. To overcome this difficulty, a pixelwise fuzzy classification based on support vector machine (SVM) is first applied. As a result, only pixels with high probabilities are preserved as labeled ones. This generates a pseudouser strike map. This map is then employed for GC to evaluate the truthful likelihoods of class labels and propagate them to the MRF. To evaluate the robustness of our method, we have tested our method on both large and small training sets. Additionally, comparisons are made between the results of SVM, SVM with stacking neighboring vectors, SVM with morphological preprocessing, extraction and classification of homogeneous objects, and our method. Comparative experimental results demonstrate the validity of our method. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) Discriminating laser scanner data points belonging to ground from points above-ground (vegetation or buildings) is a key issue in research. Methods for filtering points into ground and non-ground classes have been widely studied mostly on datasets derived from airborne laser scanners, less so for terrestrial laser scanners. Recent developments in terrestrial laser sensors (longer ranges, faster acquisition and multiple return echoes) has aroused greater interest for surface modelling applications. The downside of TLS is that a typical dataset has high variability in point density, with evident side-effects on processing methods and CPU-time. In this work we use a scan dataset from a sensor which returns multiple target echoes, in this case providing more than 70 million points on our study site. The area presents low, medium and high vegetation, undergrowth with varying density, as well as bare ground with varying morphology (i.e. very steep slopes as well as flat areas). We test an integrated work-flow for defining a terrain and surface model (DTM and DSM) and successively for extracting information on vegetation density and height distribution on such a complex environment. Attention was given to efficiency and speed of processing. The method consists on a first step which subsets the original points to define ground candidates by taking into account the ordinal return number and the amplitude. A custom progressive morphological filter (opening operation) is applied next, on ground candidate points using a multidimensional grid to account for the fallout in point density as a function of distance from scanner. Vegetation density mapping over the area is then estimated using a weighted ratio of point counts in the tri-dimensional space over each cell. The overall result is a pipeline for processing TLS points clouds with minimal user interaction, producing a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), a Digital Surface Model (DSM), a vegetation density map and a derived Canopy Height Model (CHM). These products are of high importance for many applications ranging from forestry to hydrology and geomorphology. [Termes IGN] visualisation cartographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper is an elaboration of the theses proposed in ‘Cartographic presentation of forms and degradation of the natural environment: sozological map on a scale of 1:50 000’ (Lawniczak and Kubiak, 2009), where a sozological map of Poland was presented. The said map contained comprehensive cartographic information on the forms of environmental protection and degradation, made to a scale of 1:50 000. The thematic scope of the map has already been modified twice: in 1997 and in 2005, with the ensuing changes presented in corresponding manuals: Sozological Map on a Scale of 1:50 000, in an Analogue and Digital Form (Chief National Geodesist, 1997) and Technical Guidelines GIS-4. Sozological Map of Poland, Scale of 1:50 000, in an Analogue and Digital Form (2005). Many years’ worth of experience gained since the launch of this cartographic system points out to the need for broadening the presented content and improving the map’s scale. Thus, attempts have been made at rescaling the map to 1:10 000. Increasing the degree of detail is particularly necessary for presenting areas of intensive human activity.
