[Termes IGN] géométrie de RiemannRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we describe how to use geodesic energies defined on various sets of objects to solve several distance related problems. We first present the theory of metamorphoses and the geodesic distances it induces on a Riemannian manifold, followed by classical applications in landmark and image matching. We then explain how to use the geodesic distance for new issues, which can be embedded in a general framework of matching with free extremities. This is illustrated by results on image and shape averaging and unlabeled landmark matching. [Termes IGN] modèle numérique de terrainRésumé : (Auteur) Discrimination of above-ground objects from terrain has proven to be surprisingly difficult to automate in computers, especially for large areas of varied terrain characteristics. Several methods have been developed for filtering the LiDAR data, of which three approaches are more prevalent: linear prediction, slope based and morphological filtering. A common ground to all these approaches is that the range of scales at which feature variations exist tends to be smaller than the range of scales at which terrain variations exist. In this paper, a model-based approach is described in which multiscale gradient of the surface variation is computed and used to adaptively erode the gridded LiDAR data within a multi-resolution, analysis–synthesis framework, namely the multiscale Hermite transform (MHT). The method was tested over nineteen datasets, including urban and forest areas. An average coefficient of agreement was computed over all datasets and compared with that obtained from other methods. Results showed that the proposed method was within the top three among nine methods tested. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Shape and spectra are both important features of high spatial resolution remotely sensed (HSRRS) imagery, and they are concrete manifestation of textures on such imagery. This paper presents a spatial feature index, pixel shape index (PSI), to describe the shape feature in a local area surrounding a pixel. PSI is a pixel-based feature which measures the gray similarity distance in every direction. As merely the shape feature is inadequate for classifying HSRRS imagery, a transformed spectral feature extracted by independent component analysis is added to the input vectors of our classifier, and this replaces the original multispectral bands. Meanwhile, a fast fusion algorithm that integrates both shape and spectral features using the support vector machine has been developed to interpret the complex input vectors. The results by PSI are compared with some spatial features extracted using wavelet transform, gray level co-occurrence matrix, and the length–width extraction algorithm to test its effectiveness. The experiments demonstrate that PSI is capable of describing shape features effectively and result in more accurate classifications than other methods. While it is found that spectral and shape features can complement each other and their integration can improve classification accuracy, the transformed spectral components are also found to be more suitable for classification.
