[Termes IGN] surveillance écologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The availability of hyperspectral data is going to provide new insights for environmental studies. In this study, hyperspectral data were collected for 10 land cover types with in situ measurement and leaves of 25 subtropical tree species in laboratory measurement within the 400 900 rim spectral regions in 689 bands. These bands were subsequently filtered to 138 bands for data analysis. Principal components analysis was applied to explore the inherent data dimensions. It was found that unlike most broadband sensors from which only two dimensions, brightness and greenness, could be extracted, hyperspectral data provided additional dimensions particularly along the red edge that could help identify different land covers as well as tree species. The results of tree identification using principal components analysis were comparable to those using the raw spectral bands. Hyperspectral data analysis should be a valuable tool for environmental monitoring in the tropical and subtropical environment where a large variety of flora and habitats is found. [Termes IGN] sylvicultureRésumé : (Editeur) Large-scale forest management tasks, like determining tree species, closure and mixture rate require high geometrical accuracy, as well as efficient data extraction techniques. Are IKONOS images suited for these tasks ? To answer this question the authors examined accuracy and extraction techniques for lower-price 'IKONOS Carterra Geo' imagery. The remote sensing software packages used were ERDAS Image 8.4 Professional, PCI OrthoEngine 8.2 Satellite Edition and Definiens eCognition 2.0. Digital forestry map operations were carried out with ArcView GIS 3.1. The answer to the initial question would appear to be positive. [Termes IGN] image hyperspectraleRésumé : (Auteur) It is well known that there is a strong relation between class definition precision and classification accuracy in pattern classification applications. In hyperspectral data analysis, usually classes of interest contain one or more components and may not be well represented by a single Gaussian density function. In this paper, a model-based mixture classifier, which uses mixture models to characterize class densities, is discussed. However, a key outstanding problem of this approach is how to choose the number of components and determine their parameters for such models in practice, and to do so in the face of limited training sets where estimation error becomes a significant factor. The proposed classifier estimates the number of subclasses and class statistics simultaneously by choosing the best model. The structure of class' s covariances is also addressed through a model-based covariance estimation technique introduced in this paper. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper addresses the problem of interferometric phase noise reduction in synthetic aperture radar interferometry. A new phase noise model in the complex domain is introduced and validated by using both simulated and real interferograms. This noise model is also derived in the complex wavelet domain, where a novel noise reduction algorithm, which is not based on a windowing process and without the necessity of phase unwrapping, is addressed. The use of the wavelet transform allows to maintain the spatial resolution in the filtered phase image and prevents to filter low coherence areas. By using both, simulated as well as real interferometric phase images, the performance of this algorithm, in terms of noise reduction, spatial resolution maintenance, and computational efficiency, is reported and compared with other conventional filtering approaches.
