For a number of ideal bodies the solution of these computations can be given in closed analytical form or as series expansion. In particular for points situated outside the symmetry axes of ideal bodies the analytical solutions are very tedious. Expressions of this type find application especially for gravitational experiments in the laboratory or inside of satellites. For more complicated mass distributions, for example for a topographic terrain model, finite discretization of the masses into elementary blocks or twodimensional Fourier representation are employed. In order to avoid singularities a combination method for this latter case is proposed, where a biner part is computed by numerical integration and Fourier expansion is applied to the outer area. [Termes IGN] théorie de Dempster-ShaferRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we present a model of the uncertainty for the comparison between a raster Digital Elevation Model (D.E.M.) and a medium scale topographic database, applied to the detection of the planimetric changes of the buildings. From the analysis of the sources of uncertainty in both data, we set up a frame for their comparison within the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence, considered as an extension of the theory of the probabilities. The present proposals show two main advantages. First, the model allows to represent, within an homogeneous theory, various phenomena, such as the local plotting accuracy of a matching process, the matching faults, or the lacks induced by the occlusions of the scene. Secondly, it yields a numerical characterization of the changes without need for any thresholding before the change decision. The current limitations of the study are to put aside the issues raised by the vegetation, and to consider the D.E.M. samples as independent. As such, the theoretical contribution of this paper consists principally in giving a formal basis to a simple characterization, by linking it to a robust theory. A preliminary evaluation of the model gives encouraging results. Note de contenu : Introduction

The description of the process can be realised as well by classical methods like the VOLTERRA-model as by Artificial Neural Networks and Fuzzy models which lately became more and more important in system analysis. The modelling of the deformation process should be comprehended as an process orientated by the objective of the description. That means that the suitability of the several modelling methods for a specific deformation process is to be examined and should the occasion arise a combination of the several methods leeds to an optimised model considering the modelling objective.
