[Termes IGN] recensement démographiqueRésumé : (auteur) This study reunites areal interpolation with the isopleth mapping process to construct an inferred larger scale isopleth map. Intelligent areal interpolation is used to construct two types of population density surfaces that are used as inputs for pycnophylactic interpolation of an isopleth surface. One is a target zone population density surface (TZPDS) and the other is a control zone population density surface (CZPDS). Results suggest that an inferred isopleth map with remote sensing control data is a better surface depiction than an isopleth map without any control data, and the quality of such an isopleth map is further improved by enhancing the remote sensing data with residential parcel information. A CZPDS-derived intelligent isopleth map also has more peaks and variations in population distribution patterns than does a TZPDS-derived one due to the larger scale of the control data. [Termes IGN] optimisation (mathématiques)Résumé : (Auteur) Sparse hyperspectral unmixing assumes that each observed pixel can be expressed by a linear combination of several pure spectra in a priori library. Sparse unmixing is challenging, since it is usually transformed to a NP-hard l0l0 norm based optimization problem. Existing methods usually utilize a relaxation to the original l0l0 norm. However, the relaxation may bring in sensitive weighted parameters and additional calculation error. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-objective based algorithm to solve the sparse unmixing problem without any relaxation. We transform sparse unmixing to a multi-objective optimization problem, which contains two correlative objectives: minimizing the reconstruction error and controlling the endmember sparsity. To improve the efficiency of multi-objective optimization, a population-based randomly flipping strategy is designed. Moreover, we theoretically prove that the proposed method is able to recover a guaranteed approximate solution from the spectral library within limited iterations. The proposed method can directly deal with l0l0 norm via binary coding for the spectral signatures in the library. Experiments on both synthetic and real hyperspectral datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. [Termes IGN] précipitationRésumé : (Auteur) The optimal design of pulse compression waveform/filter pairs for use with near-nadir spaceborne radar in low earth orbit for the observation of clouds and precipitation is discussed. An optimization technique is introduced that considers performance metrics specific to the remote sensing of clouds and precipitation from such platforms. Specifically, the sensitivity of the radar to precipitation and clouds is maximized as close to the ground as required. The sensitivity of the radar near the surface is typically limited by the pulse compression range sidelobes from the surface's echo. Optimization of the waveform/filter pair's performance is facilitated by a time-domain radar scattering model to simulate radar reflectivity range profiles. The presented radar-scattering model accounts for the radar's configuration constraints and platform motion, as well as the spatial distribution and relative motion of the scatterers. In this paper, the optimization of both linear frequency modulation (LFM) and nonlinear frequency modulation (NLFM) waveforms is considered. It is demonstrated that the LFM waveforms provide superior performance over NLFM waveforms for application subject to unmitigated Doppler shifts. Several empirical models are available, but they may not properly characterize the state of troposphere, especially in severe weather conditions. Another possible solution is to use regional troposphere models based on real-time or near-real time measurements. In this study, we present the total refractivity and zenith total delay (ZTD) models based on a numerical weather prediction (NWP) model, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data and ground-based meteorological observations. We reconstruct the total refractivity profiles over the western part of Switzerland and the total refractivity profiles as well as ZTDs over Poland using the least-squares collocation software COMEDIE (Collocation of Meteorological Data for Interpretation and Estimation of Tropospheric Pathdelays) developed at ETH Zürich. In these two case studies, profiles of the total refractivity and ZTDs are calculated from different data sets. For Switzerland, the data set with the best agreement with the reference radiosonde (RS) measurements is the combination of ground-based meteorological observations and GNSS ZTDs. Introducing the horizontal gradients does not improve the vertical interpolation, and results in slightly larger biases and standard deviations. For Poland, the data set based on meteorological parameters from the NWP Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and from a combination of the NWP model and GNSS ZTDs shows the best agreement with the reference RS data. In terms of ZTD, the combined NWP-GNSS observations and GNSS-only data set exhibit the best accuracy with an average bias (from all stations) of 3.7 mm and average standard deviations of 17.0 mm w.r.t. the reference GNSS stations.
