[Termes IGN] Union EuropéenneRésumé : (Auteur) In twenty years time there may be more than twenty five countries in the European Union. The enlargement of the present Union on this scale has massive implications for the structure of decision making at the European level as well as for the management of key elements of its infrastructure such as geographic information. The five strategic objectives of EUROGI (the European Umbrella Organisation for Geographic Information) include the promotion of strong national GI associations throughout Europe and the improvement of the European Geographic Information Infrastructure. These are of particular importance for capacity building and data policy formulation in those central and eastern European countries that are seeking to become members of an enlarged European Union. With these considerations in mind EUROGI welcomed the opportunity to cooperate with the Joint Research Centre in organising a workshop on this topic in Brussels from November 17th - 18th 2000. This report is the outcome of this workshop. It is being disseminated widely among the various member associations that make up EUROGI to stimulate further discussion on these topics at both the national and European levels. 1 would like to express my appreciation to Anton Wolfkamp, and Karen Levoleger in the EUROGI Secretariat for their enthusiastic responses to the challenges posed by organising this workshop.
