[Termes IGN] trajet multipleRésumé : (Auteur) Multipath in global positioning system (GPS) is the interference of the microwave signals directly from satellites and those reflected before reaching the antenna, typically by the ground. Because reflected signals cause positioning errors, GPS antennas are designed to reduce such interference. Recent studies show that multipath could be utilized to infer the properties of the ground around the antenna. Here, we report one such application, i.e. a fixed GPS station used as a snow depth meter. Because the satellite moves in the sky, the excess path length of reflected waves changes at rates dependent on the antenna height. This causes quasi-periodic variations of the amplitude and phase of the received signals. Accumulation of snow reduces effective antenna heights, and we can see it by analyzing multipath signatures. Signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) are often used to analyze multipath, but they are not always available in raw GPS data files. Here, we demonstrate that the geometry-free linear combination (L4), normally used to study the ionosphere, can also be used to analyze multipath signatures. We obtained snow depth time series at a GPS station in Hokkaido, Japan, from January to April in 2009 using L4 and SNR. Then, we compared their precisions. We also discuss mechanisms responsible for the possible underestimation of the snow depth by GPS. Finally, we investigate the possibility of inferring physical conditions of the snow surface using amplitudes of multipath signatures. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we propose the use of binary partition trees (BPT) to introduce a novel region-based and multi-scale polarimetric SAR (PolSAR) data representation. The BPT structure represents homogeneous regions in the data at different detail levels. The construction process of the BPT is based, firstly, on a region model able to represent the homogeneous areas, and, secondly, on a dissimilarity measure in order to identify similar areas and define the merging sequence. Depending on the final application, a BPT pruning strategy needs to be introduced. In this paper, we focus on the application of BPT PolSAR data representation for speckle noise filtering and data segmentation on the basis of the Gaussian hypothesis, where the average covariance or coherency matrices are considered as a region model. We introduce and quantitatively analyze different dissimilarity measures. In this case, and with the objective to be sensitive to the complete polarimetric information under the Gaussian hypothesis, dissimilarity measures considering the complete covariance or coherency matrices are employed. When confronted to PolSAR speckle filtering, two pruning strategies are detailed and evaluated. As presented, the BPT PolSAR speckle filter defined filters data according to the complete polarimetric information. As shown, this novel filtering approach is able to achieve very strong filtering while preserving the spatial resolution and the polarimetric information. Finally, the BPT representation structure is employed for high spatial resolution image segmentation applied to coastline detection. The analyses detailed in this work are based on simulated, as well as on real PolSAR data acquired by the ESAR system of DLR and the RADARSAT-2 system. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) We propose a novel despeckling algorithm for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images based on the concepts of nonlocal filtering and wavelet-domain shrinkage. It follows the structure of the block-matching 3-D algorithm, recently proposed for additive white Gaussian noise denoising, but modifies its major processing steps in order to take into account the peculiarities of SAR images. A probabilistic similarity measure is used for the block-matching step, while the wavelet shrinkage is developed using an additive signal-dependent noise model and looking for the optimum local linear minimum-mean-square-error estimator in the wavelet domain. The proposed technique compares favorably w.r.t. several state-of-the-art reference techniques, with better results both in terms of signal-to-noise ratio (on simulated speckled images) and of perceived image quality. Note de contenu : 1. Introduction

[Termes IGN] variation temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) The gravitational field and its temporal variations represent an important observable for the monitoring of the Earth's system. The satellite mission GRACE (Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment) is, for the first time, able to measure gravity field variations with homogeneous global coverage. Nevertheless, the predicted GRACE accuracy has not been reached yet, partly due to the insufficient representation of the temporal variations in terms of monthly mean fields. In this thesis, an approach is presented which allows the calculation of daily GRACE solutions with the goal of modeling short-term gravity field variations. This time series can on the one hand be used to improve the knowledge of the underlying geophysical processes. On the other hand the daily GRACE solutions can also be used to improve the monthly mean fields. Increasing the temporal resolution is accompanied by a loss of accuracy due to insufficient data coverage. Therefore, additional information in terms of temporal and spatial correlations of the expected gravity signal is introduced into the analysis process. The combination of the GRACE observations and the correlation patterns is then performed within a Kalman filter framework. In a simulation study, the performance of the approach at hand is investigated and, in a second step, applied to real GRACE LIB data. Comparisons to independent data sets, i.e. vertical displacements of GPS stations and ocean bottom pressure time series, reveal that the daily GRACE time series contains geophysically interpretable signal. Furthermore, the daily GRACE time series can be used to significantly reduce the effects of temporal aliasing in the processing of monthly mean gravity field solutions.
