[Termes IGN] transfert radiatifRésumé : (Auteur) To maximize the spectral distinctiveness (information) of the canopy reflectance, an atmospheric correction strategy was implemented to provide accurate estimates of the intrinsic reflectance from the Earth Observing 1 (EO1) satellite Hyperion sensor signal. In rendering the canopy reflectance, an estimate of optical depth derived from a measurement of downwelling irradiance was used to drive a radiative transfer simulation of atmospheric scattering and attenuation. During the atmospheric model simulation, the input whole-terrain background reflectance estimate was changed to minimize the differences between the model predicted and the observed canopy reflectance spectra at 34 sites. Lacking appropriate spectrally invariant scene targets, inclusion of the field and predicted comparison maximized the model accuracy and, thereby, the detail and precision in the canopy reflectance necessary to detect low percentage occurrences of invasive plants. After accounting for artifacts surrounding prominent absorption features from about 400nm to 1000nm, the atmospheric adjustment strategy correctly explained 99% of the observed canopy reflectance spectra variance. Separately, model simulation explained an average of 88% + 9% of the observed variance in the visible and 98% + 1 % in the near-infrared wavelengths. [Termes IGN] zone intertropicaleRésumé : (Auteur) Multi-temporal compositing of SPOT-4 VEGETATION imagery over tropical regions was tested to produce spatially coherent monthly composite images with reduced cloud contamination, for the year 2000. Monthly composite images generated from daily images (S1 product, 1-km) encompassing different land cover. types of the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, were evaluated in terms of cloud contamination and spatial consistency. A new multi-temporal compositing algorithm was tested which uses different criteria for vegetated and non-vegetated or sparsely vegetated land cover types. Furthermore, a principal components transformation that rescales the noise in the image-Maximum Noise Fraction (MNF)- was applied to a multi-temporal dataset of monthly composite images and tested as a method of additional signal-to-noise ratio improvement. The back-transformed dataset using the first 12 MNF eigenimages yielded an accurate reconstruction of monthly composite images from the dry season (May to September) and enhanced spatial coherence from wet season images (October to April), as evaluated by the Moran's 1 index of spatial autocorrelation. This approach is useful for land cover- change studies in the tropics, where it is difficult to obtain cloud-free optical remote sensing imagery. In Mato Grosso, wet season composite images are important for monitoring agricultural crop cycles. [Termes IGN] modèle numérique de terrainRésumé : (Auteur) A hierarchical terrain recovery approach for generating digital terrain models (DTM) from single and multiple returns lidar data is presented in this paper. The algorithm can intelligently discriminate between terrain and non-terrain points by using adaptive and robust filtering and interpolation techniques. It processes the image pyramid, bottom-up and top-down, to estimate high-quality terrain surfaces from lidar data with varying point densities and scene complexities. Using road and vegetation information, the algorithm is able to adaptively adjust thresholds to be suited to process changing contents in a large scene. The algorithms have been tested extensively using multiple medium - and high - resolution lidar datasets. The worst-case error is below 25 cm Linear Error (LE) 90 comparing the derived DTMs and the raw range images on bare surfaces when testing several lidar datasets. [Termes IGN] système de numérisation mobileRésumé : (Auteur) Direct georeferencing, also referred to as direct platform orientation (DPO), is defined as direct measurement of the imaging sensor external orientation parameters (EOP), using positioning and orientation sensors, such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) or Inertial Measurement Unit (Imu). Imaging sensors, most frequently supported by the Dpo technique, are digital cameras, lidar systems, multi-spectral or hyper-spectral scanners, or interferometric synthetic aperture radar (INSAR). While for scanning sensors, the use of Dpo is compulsory, frame digital cameras can also directly benefit from this modern technique of sensor orientation. With direct sensor orientation, the requirement for ground control, tie-point matching and aerotriangulation (AT) is significantly reduced, or even entirely eliminated, resulting in shorter times of data acquisition and processing, and streamlined and highly automated data workflow and quality control. Most of the time, the requirement for ground control points is limited to periodic system calibrations and quality control check. Direct georeferencing is considered a fundamental technology of conventional mobile mapping systems (MMS). Despite significant progress in GSP/INS-based direct georeferencing technology in the last decade, there is still room for improvement in terms of better accuracy and better tolerance to GPS outages. This paper is focused on three error modeling and compensation techniques that could potentially improve GPS/INS system's performance on both land-based and airborne platforms : (1) extended gravity compensation, (2) IMU signal de-noising, and (3) stochastic modeling of IMU errors. [Termes IGN] trajet multipleRésumé : (Auteur) Recent studies have shown that phase pattern models for the Jason1 GPS antenna significantly benefit GPSbased precise orbit determination (POD) for the satellite. We have used a similar technique to derive DORIS receiver antenna maps, using all available DORIS tracking data over long time periods (from 1993.0 to 2004.0). We demonstrate that the derived correction models are satellite specific. For a given satellite, yeartoyear estimations show clear systematic patterns. Some of these systematic patterns are attributable to the derivative of the multipath effects in the direction of the satellite velocity. For early SPOT data, the patterns can be explained by an offset in the TAI time tagging (typically 8 us). In a second step, we have applied the SPOT2 antenna correction models in precise orbit determination and in the positioning of ground beacons. Preliminary results on DORIS/SPOT2 show that application of the DORIS antenna maps lead to a slight improvement of the derived POD and geodetic results (typically less than 5%).
