[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a novel approach to change detection in multitemporal synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The proposed approach exploits a wavelet-based multiscale decomposition of the log-ratio image (obtained by a comparison of the original multitemporal data) aimed at achieving different scales (levels) of representation of the change signal. Each scale is characterized by a different tradeoff between speckle reduction and preservation of geometrical details. For each pixel, a subset of reliable scales is identified on the basis of a local statistic measure applied to scale-dependent log-ratio images. The final change detection result is obtained according to an adaptive scale-driven fusion algorithm. Experimental results obtained on multitemporal SAR images acquired by the ERS-1 satellite confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A fully consistent radiative transfer approach is always preferred when dealing with the retrieval of surface reflectance from hyperspectral/multiangular data. However, due to the reported calibration anomalies for CHRIS data, a direct atmospheric correction based on physical radiative transfer modeling is not possible, and the method must somehow compensate for such calibration problems in specific wavelength ranges. A dedicated atmospheric correction algorithm for PROBA/CHRIS data over land is presented in this work. It consists in the combination of radiative transfer and empirical line approaches to atmospheric correction, in order to retrieve surface reflectance images free from both the atmospheric distortion and artifacts due to miscalibration. The atmospheric optical parameters and the updated set of calibration coefficients are obtained jointly in an autonomous process, without the need for any ancillary data. Results from the application of the algorithm to PROBA/CHRIS data from the two European Space Agency SPectra bARrax Campaign (SPARC) held at the Barrax study site (La Mancha, Spain) in 2003 and 2004 are presented in this work, focusing on the validation of the final surface reflectance using in situ measurements acquired simultaneously to PROBA overpasses. [Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Since 1999, very high spatial resolution satellite data represent the surface of the Earth with more detail. However, information extraction by per pixel multispectral classification techniques proves to be very complex owing to the internal variability increase in land-cover units and to the weakness of spectral resolution. Image segmentation before classification was proposed as an alternative approach, but a large variety of segmentation algorithms were developed during the last 20 years, and a comparison of their implementation on very high spatial resolution images is necessary. In this study, four algorithms from the two main groups of segmentation algorithms (boundary-based and region-based) were evaluated and compared. In order to compare the algorithms, an evaluation of each algorithm was carried out with empirical discrepancy evaluation methods. This evaluation is carried out with a visual segmentation of Ikonos panchromatic images. The results show that the choice of parameters is very important and has a great influence on the segmentation results. The selected boundary-based algorithms are sensitive to the noise or texture. Better results are obtained with region-based algorithms, but a problem with the transition zones between the contrasted objects can be present. [Termes IGN] rapport signal sur bruitRésumé : (Auteur) The Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite acquired a sequence of data in 2001 and 2002 that highlighted the annual flooding of the lower Okavango Delta. The data were collected as part of the calibration/validation programme for the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) sensor on the NASA EO-1 satellite. The primary purpose of this study was to compare the capability of ALI to that of Landsat ETM + for large-scale mapping applications in the Okavango Delta. While the extent and inaccessibility of many areas of the Delta make application of remote sensing attractive, the availability of data with adequate spatial and spectral resolution has limited the characterization of the complex patterns of land cover and geomorphology in the Delta. Initial analysis of the ALI data via supervised classification clearly showed macro-flood features, delineation of downstream channel flow areas, and lateral-downstream inundation of the floodplain. These patterns and the proportions of flooding of the channel compared to that of the floodplain (impoundment) varied annually, from the wetter seasonal swamps through the drier seasonal and occasional swamps. Consistently higher classification accuracies achieved using ALI data relative to ETM + data are attributed to the higher signal-to-noise ratio and the increased dynamic range of the ALI data.
