[Termes IGN] séismeRésumé : (auteur) The 2015 Gorkha Nepal Earthquake sequence started with a magnitude Mw 7.8 main shock and continued with several large aftershocks, particularly the second major shock of Mw 7.3. Both earthquake events were captured using ALOS-2 ScanSAR images to determine the coseismic surface deformation and the source models. In this paper, the displacement maps were produced and the corresponding modelling results were discussed. The single fault model of the main shock suggests that there was nearly 6 m of right-lateral oblique slip motion with fault struck of 292° and dipped gently Northeast at 7°, indicating that the main shock was on a thrust fault. Moreover, a single fault model for the Mw 7.3 quake with striking of 312° and dipping of 11° was derived from observed result. Both results showed the fault planes struck generally to South and dipped northeast, which depicted the risks since the main shock occurred. [Termes IGN] retard troposphériqueRésumé : (Auteur) The differential ionospheric path delay is a major error source in L-band interferograms. It is superimposed to topography and ground deformation signals, hindering the measurement of geophysical processes. In this paper, we proceed toward the realization of an operational processor to compensate the ionospheric effects in interferograms. The processor should be robust and accurate to meet the scientific requirements for the measurement of geophysical processes, and it should be applicable on a global scale. An implementation of the split-spectrum method, which will be one element of the processor, is presented in detail, and its performance is analyzed. The method is based on the dispersive nature of the ionosphere and separates the ionospheric component of the interferometric phase from the nondispersive component related to topography, ground motion, and tropospheric path delay. We tested the method using various Advanced Land Observing Satellite Phased-Array type L-band synthetic aperture radar interferometric pairs with different characteristics: high to low coherence, moving and nonmoving terrains, with and without topography, and different ionosphere states. Ionospheric errors of almost 1 m have been corrected to a centimeter or a millimeter level. The results show how the method is able to systematically compensate the ionospheric phase in interferograms, with the expected accuracy, and can therefore be a valid element of the operational processor.

[Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) The objective of this study is to develop a method based on multivariate relevance vector regression (MVRVR) as a kernelbased Bayesian model for the estimation of above-ground biomass (AGB) in the Hyrcanian forests of Iran. Field AGB data from the Hyrcanian forests and multi-temporal PALSAR backscatter values are used for training and testing the methods. The results of the MVRVR method are then compared with other methods: multivariate linear regression (MLR), multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN), and support vector regression (SVR). The MLR model showed lower values of R2 than the three other approaches. Although the SVR model was found to be more accurate than MLPNN, it had the lowest saturation point of 224.75 Mg/ha. The use of MVRVR model significantly improves the estimation of AGB (R2 = 0.90; RMSE = 32.05 Mg/ha), and the model showed a superior performance in estimating AGB with the highest saturation point (297.81 Mg/ha). [Termes IGN] image Sentinel-SARRésumé : (auteur) SAR data are well suited for the retrieval of biomass from vegetated areas. In particular, the ability of low frequencies to deeply penetrate dense vegetation, allows P band radar data to retrieve high biomass levels that can be encountered over forests, where other frequencies show their limitations. The BIOMASS mission, consisting in the launch of a P band SAR sensor, has been selected by ESA as the 7th Earth Explorer mission, will allow to estimate the world’s forest biomass and its changes. However, forests observe strong spatial differences in terms of structure or surface topography. These differences induce significant changes of the scattering mechanism occurring within a resolution cell. At global scale, the differences are obvious (for example between boreal and tropical regions), but at regional scale, strong differences can also be observed (for example gallery forests within savannahs, forest edges, or changes due to surface topography). The consideration of these changes is a major issue to improve the robustness of the inversion algorithm in order to reduce the errors of the biomass estimations. Up to now, no unique inversion method has been developed, that would be valid over the wide variety of forests types. An alternative is to propose a classification method that will allow to discriminate between forest types in terms of radar scattering behavior in order to apply the best suited algorithm. This is the aim of the present study. The focus is put on the analysis of the different polarimetric indices that can be derived from the fully polarimetric data acquired during the BIOMASS mission. Then the contribution of other data that should be concomitant to the BIOMASS mission, such as Sentinel-1 at C band or PALSAR2 at L band will also be investigated. This study will be based on the analysis of P band SAR data acquired during airborne campaigns other boreal (BioSAR 1 and 2) and tropical (TropiSAR, AfriSAR) forests, over a wide range of biomass value and terrain conditions.
