[Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) Tidal channel play a fundamental role in the hydrodynamic and morphological processes operating within a tidal basin. Conventional means of mapping intertidal zones are either too cumbersome or do not provide sufficient information for accurate quantitative measurements of the channels. This paper describes the use of the airborne scanning altimetry (light detection and ranging-LIDAR) for studying tidal channel morphology. The main emphasis is on developing a technique for extracting tidal channels from LiDAR data. Some common existing techniques of fluvial channel extraction are evaluated with LiDAR data of tidal basins and found moderate in performance. A semiautomatic approach is proposed which has a performance better than that of existing techniques. This approach is realised using an adaptative height thresholding technique to locate channel fragments. A channel joining mechanism then connects the channel fragment using weighted distance transform. The paper also describes briefly an automatic procedure to carry out measurments on the basin image and derive geomorphological parameters such as drainage density. The results obtained illustrate differences in the geomorphology of tidal and terrestrial basins. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper develops a method for analysing changes in a surface, a scalar function defined over a two-dimensional region. The method is based on the topological method for a static surface that uses critical points (peaks, bottoms, and cols) and their connecting lines. To extend the topological method to spatio-temporal domain, four types of primitive events are proposed : 1) generation, 2) disappearance, 3) movement, and 4) switch. The change of a surface is described by a combination of these primitives. From sufaces of two times a set of primitive events that cause the change is deduced. They are stored in GIS as spatial objects with attributes, and their spatio-temporal pattern is visually analysed. To test the validity of the method, the change of retail cluster in Shinjuku and Shibuya area in Tokyo is analysed. The empiracal study yielded some interesting finding that help us changes in the spatial structure of retailing. [Termes IGN] prédictionRésumé : (Auteur) Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) is a model to predict longtime average annual soil loss, related to rainfall-runoff, soil erodibility, slope length and steepness, cover management, and support practice. The product of slope length L and steepness S is called topographic factor LS, implying the topographic effect on soil loss. This study focuses on (a) spatially predicting the topographic factor LS for RUSLE using a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), (b) selecting the appropriate DEM spacing for predicting the LS factor, and (c) modeling the loss of spatial variability of the predicted LS factor due to DEM resampling. The results show that using the physically based topographical factor LS equation and DEMs led to a higher correlation of predicted LS values with topographical features, compared to a spatial simulation method based on LS empirical models and sample data. The appropriate DEM spacing required to achieve prediction precision and detailed spatial variability of the LS factor was not identical for both requirements and a compromise may be made depending on the application aims. By modeling the spatial variability of predicted LS values for different DEM spacing, a new method to directly measure loss of spatial variability due to data resampling was developed. Compared to measures of entropy and global variance, the new method can reveal the different losses of spatial variability in different directions when the spatial variability is anisotropic.
