It is difficult to reach this isolated continent. Very high logistic efforts are necessary to obtain measured data. In addition, the mostly complicate meteorological conditions affect the data quality or lead to incomplete data sets. However, data from Antarctica are essential for the verification and the further development of models of global processes or phenomena. Without measurements in the physical reality such models will provide only a more or less insufficient description of the properties in those regions which are not or less covered with data.
The topic of this thesis is the modelling and parameter estimation for geodetic-glaciological questions based on a large amount of data from the region around the Schirmacher Oasis, Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Both classical geodetic measurements and modern space methods were considered. One focal point is the determination of a regional geoid model using gravimetric and geometric data. A point mass representation of the disturbing potential was used for the mathematical approach. This method is very robust and suitable for fitting of an irregularly distributed relative small number of data points. A global gravity field model and the influence of topographic and ice masses were handled by the remove-restore technique.
The height datum for the working area was redefined based on the results of the geoid modelling. Geoid profiles were computed from independent measurements along two geodetic-glaciological traverses and compared with the geoid model. Significant specific mass balances were obtained from repeated height determinations of identical traverse points.
The main purpose of this thesis was the compilation and comprehensive consideration of inhomogeneous data obtained during the last years. GPS turned out to be the method to integrate all these different data sets into a common framework. Although GPS measurements in high latitudes are affected by special difficulties the use of GPS has decisively improved the possibilities of geodetic research in Antarctica. The main reasons are the operationallity, the high accuracy and the weather independence of GPS methods.Numéro de notice : 56501 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Thèse étrangère Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=60039 Exemplaires(2)

In contrast to many other methods an ellipsoid of revolution is used as a reference surface instead of a sphere and furthermore the potential itself is continued downward and not derivatives of the potential (gravity anomalies, deflections of the vertical, gradiometry data). The influence of the topographic masses and their isostatic compensation is taken into account with a remove-restore technique where the kernel of the Newton-Integral is expanded into converging spherical harmonics series. The downward continuation is then performed by a generalized Tikhonov regularisation method which obtains minimal errors and it must be added that both random as well as often omitted systematic parts are considered. The downward continued disturbing potential is then used for geoid determination by using Bruns formula. To check theory test calculations have been performed for the area of Baden-Wiirttemberg. [Vedettes matières IGN] AltimétrieRésumé : (Auteur) These are the proceedings of the first joint workshop between the scientific communities of the Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level (PSMSL) and the International GPS Service (IGS) regarding applications of the Global Positioning System (GPS) to monitoring sea level change. Two applications were highlighted: 1) monitoring and interpretation of tide gauge benchmark motion through collocation measurements of GPS and, 2) collocation of GPS at island and coastal tide gauges to calibrate orbiting altimeter missions (e.g., TOPEX/Poseidon, JASON, etc.). The workshop covered the technologies, science and engineering issues, practical experiences, data management, and analysis. Summary recommendations from the final joint session are included.
