[Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : (auteur) Orthoimages are differentially rectified images that are corrected for the distortions caused especially by image tilt and topographic relief. The orientation, digital elevation model (DEM) and off-nadir angle plays an important role in orthoimage accuracy. The orientation error mostly occurs due to the quality and distribution of the ground control points. In this study, an attempt has been made to model the remaining errors by keeping the orientation error constant. To model the accuracy, orthoimages are produced with eight DEMs having different accuracies and are assessed using 50 check points. As the theoretical model cannot reflect the real world exactly, an empirical model is used for estimating the orthoimage accuracy. This proposed model was validated by another dataset. It is concluded that statistically there is no significant difference between the calculated model and real planimetric errors. The proposed model can be used in predicting orthoimage accuracy provided that the DEM accuracy and off-nadir angles of the points are known. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (auteur) Man-made objects, such as buildings and roads, which are important targets for information extraction from high spatial resolution (HSR) remote sensing images, often feature straight boundaries. This study employs this knowledge on HSR image segmentation by embedding a straight-line constraint in regionbased image segmentation. A new concept called collinear and ipsilateral neighborhood is proposed and applied to hardboundary constraint-based image segmentation for accuracy improvement. In the experimental areas, the method accuracy measured by recall ratio r increases from 0.036 to 0.048 (on the average) after the refinement, with significantly smaller decreases in precision p that are all less than 0.006. In sum, the proposed technique effectively reduces over-segmentation errors and maintains the same level of under-segmentation error ratio, particularly in man-made areas. It facilitates subsequent objectbased image analyses, including feature extraction, object recognition, and classification. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A detailed assessment of the plammetric accuracy of highresolution panchromatic Ikonos orthoirnage products for three different test sites is presented. The main objective was to evaluate the potential of Ikonos orthoirnage products for use as digital image basemaps in local government Geographic Information Systems (GIS) systems. For maximum utility and adoption, a planimetric accuracy of 3-5 m and a circular error at 90% probability (CE90) is considered nominal for local government planning and management applications. Lowprecision, lowcost georeferenced Ikonos image products (Geo, 50 m CE90) were orthorectified using third party commercially available software and various custom Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). The planimetric accuracies of the resulting custom Ikonos orthoirnages were found to vary between 2-4 m CE90. In addition, United States Geological Survey (USGS) DEMs were also used to orthorectify georeferenced Ikonos image products. Planimetric accuracies of 2-3 m CE90 were obtained from georeferenced Ikonos using USGS DEMs with RMS vertical accuracies of the order of 2 m. The approach demonstrated here can be used to deliver uptodate, costeffective ortholmages from Ikonos Geo products that yield planimetric accuracies suitable for use as digital image basemaps by local governments. [Termes IGN] restauration d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) An investigation of the application of 1 -m Ikonos satellite imagery to 3D point positioning and building reconstruction is reported. The focus of the evaluation of Geo panchromatic imagery has been upon 3D positioning accuracy, radiometric quality and attributes of the image data for building feature extraction. Following an initial review of characteristics of the Ikonos system, the multi-image dataset employed is described, as is the Melbourne Ikonos testfield. Radiometric quality and image preprocessing aspects are discussed, with attention being given to noise level and artifacts, as well as to methods of image enhancement. The results of 2D and 3D metric accuracy tests using straightforward geometric sensor models are summarised, these showing that planimetric accuracy of 0.3-0.6 m and height accuracy of 0.5-0.9 m are readily achievable with only three to six ground control points. A quantitative and qualitative assessment of the use of stereo Ikonos imagery for generating building models is then provided, using the campus of the University of Melbourne as an evaluation site. The results of this assessment are discussed, these highlighting the high accuracy potential of Ikonos Geo imagery and limitations to be considered in building reconstruction when a comprehensive and detailed modelling is required.
