[Termes IGN] trajectoire (véhicule non spatial)Résumé : (auteur) The position of a seafloor geodetic station can be determined by combining Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and acoustic technologies, called GNSS-acoustic positioning. The precision of GNSS-acoustic positioning, a technique that employs the distance intersection, is determined by the positioning geometry formed by the ship’s track lines with respect to the seafloor station and the errors in the measurements. In the context of a shallow sea trial, we studied three key techniques in GNSS-acoustic positioning: the optimal geometric configuration, differencing techniques for acoustic observations and depth constraints offered by pressure gauges. The results showed that the optimal geometric configuration is a circular track with a radius of 2‾√ times the depth plus an overhead cross-track with a length of the circle diameter. Differenced observations can improve the horizontal positioning precision but will worsen the vertical positioning precision due to the change in the geometric configuration and the elimination of vertical information if the number of observations is limited. The proposed difference strategy, that is, applying a symmetric location difference operator to the circular track and an undifference operator to the cross-track, can effectively improve the horizontal precision and avoid vertical defects. By using relative depth observations from two pressure gauges as constraints, the vertical defects of GNSS-acoustic positioning can be improved, achieving a better vertical positioning precision. Applying the proposed methods to high-quality GNSS and acoustic observations, the positioning precision of a shallow seafloor geodetic station can be better than 2 cm. [Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) As people grow accustomed to effortless outdoor navigation, there is a rising demand for similar possibilities indoors as well. Unfortunately, indoor localization, being one of the requirements for navigation, continues to be a problem without a clear solution. In this article, we are proposing a method for an indoor positioning system using a single image. This is made possible using a small preprocessed database of images with known control points as the only preprocessing needed. Using feature detection with the SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) algorithm, we can look through the database and find an image that is the most similar to the image taken by a user. Such a pair of images is then used to find coordinates of a database of images using the PnP problem. Furthermore, projection and essential matrices are determined to calculate the user image localization—determining the position of the user in the indoor environment. The benefits of this approach lie in the single image being the only input from a user and the lack of requirements for new onsite infrastructure. Thus, our approach enables a more straightforward realization for building management. Within these messages, geographic locations are often described. Accurate recognition and geolocation of these locations are critical for reaching those in need. This article focuses on the first part of this process, namely recognizing locations from social media messages. While general named entity recognition tools are often used to recognize locations, their performance is limited due to the various language irregularities associated with social media text, such as informal sentence structures, inconsistent letter cases, name abbreviations, and misspellings. We present NeuroTPR, which is a Neuro‐net ToPonym Recognition model designed specifically with these linguistic irregularities in mind. Our approach extends a general bidirectional recurrent neural network model with a number of features designed to address the task of location recognition in social media messages. We also propose an automatic workflow for generating annotated data sets from Wikipedia articles for training toponym recognition models. We demonstrate NeuroTPR by applying it to three test data sets, including a Twitter data set from Hurricane Harvey, and comparing its performance with those of six baseline models. [Termes IGN] modèle stochastiqueRésumé : (auteur) Reverse geocoding, which transforms machine‐readable GPS coordinates into human‐readable location information, is widely used in a variety of location‐based services and analysis. The output quality of reverse geocoding is critical because it can greatly impact these services provided to end‐users. We argue that the output of reverse geocoding should be spatially close to and topologically correct with respect to the input coordinates, contain multiple suggestions ranked by a uniform standard, and incorporate GPS uncertainties. However, existing reverse geocoding systems often fail to fulfill these aims. To further improve the reverse geocoding process, we propose a probabilistic framework that includes: (1) a new workflow that can adapt all existing address models and unitizes distance and topology relations among retrieved reference data for candidate selections; (2) an advanced scoring mechanism that quantifies characteristics of the entire workflow and orders candidates according to their likelihood of being the best candidate; and (3) a novel algorithm that derives statistical surfaces for input GPS uncertainties and propagates such uncertainties into final output lists. The efficiency of the proposed approaches is demonstrated through comparisons to the four commercial reverse geocoding systems and through human judgments. We envision that more advanced reverse geocoding output ranking algorithms specific to different application scenarios can be built upon this work.
