[Termes IGN] voixRésumé : (Auteur) GPS-based pedestrian navigation systems have become increasingly popular. Different interface technologies can be used to communicate/convey route directions to pedestrians. This paper aims to empirically study the influence of different interface technologies on spatial knowledge acquisition in the context of GPS-based pedestrian navigation. A field experiment was implemented to address this concern. Firstly, the suitability of the evaluation methods in assessing spatial knowledge acquisition was analyzed empirically (focusing on the ability of differentiating “familiar“ and “unfamiliar“ participants). The suitable methods were then used to compare the influence of mobile maps, augmented reality, and voice on spatial learning. The field test showed that in terms of spatial knowledge acquisition, the three interface technologies led to comparable results, which were not significantly different from each other. The results bring some challenging issues for consideration when designing mobile pedestrian navigation systems. [Termes IGN] répertoire toponymiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Disabled people, especially the blind and vision-impaired, are challenged by many transitory hazards in urban environments such as construction barricades, temporary fencing across walkways, and obstacles along curbs. These hazards present a problem for navigation, because they typically appear in an unplanned manner and are seldom included in databases used for accessibility mapping. Tactile maps are a traditional tool used by blind and vision-impaired people for navigation through urban environments, but such maps are not automatically updated with transitory hazards. As an alternative approach to static content on tactile maps, we use volunteered geographic information (VGI) and an Open Source system to provide updates of local infrastructure. These VGI updates, contributed via voice, text message, and e-mail, use geographic descriptions containing place names to describe changes to the local environment. After they have been contributed and stored in a database, we georeference VGI updates with a detailed gazetteer of local place names including buildings, administrative offices, landmarks, roadways, and dormitories. We publish maps and alerts showing transitory hazards, including location-based alerts delivered to mobile devices. Our system is built with several technologies including PHP, JavaScript, AJAX, Google Maps API, PostgreSQL, an Open Source database, and PostGIS, the PostgreSQL's spatial extension. This article provides insight into the integration of user-contributed geospatial information into a comprehensive system for use by the blind and vision-impaired, focusing on currently developed methods for geoparsing and georeferencing using a gazetteer. [Termes IGN] téléphone intelligentRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we focus on the accuracy of optical indoor positioning and the design of an automated and mobile positioning system based on pictures taken by a cell phone camera. We restrict ourselves to automated relative pose estimation given only one image including the projection of an object with four reference points with known image and world coordinates. To infer the relative pose from the image coordinates of the reference points, we first have to detect and classify an object, afterwards localize the image coordinates, and finally apply spatial resection. We show, that if an object is correctly classified, then the quality of the positioning heavily depends on the accuracy of the localization of the image coordinates and on the choice of the spatial resection algorithm. To this end, we compare three different spatial resection algorithms and present two combinations of object classification and image coordinate localization techniques using doors as known objects. Statistical evaluations are provided to judge the different classification methods in terms of robustness and to present the accuracy of the image coordinate localization techniques. This article reviews the main features of Galileo's E5 AltBOC and E1 CBOC signals, describes generation of realistic E and E1 pseudoranges with or without multipath sources, and presents anticipated horizontal positioning accuracy results, ranging from 4 centimeters (open-sky) to 14 centimeters (under-canopy) for E5/E1.
