[Termes IGN] système d'extension spatialRésumé : (Auteur) Linear features are represented on paper or digital maps with polyline geometries. Sampling, discretization, and generalization processes result in polylines of a length smaller than that of the actual features. In addition, semantics associated to the original line features may be lost. This becomes more significant for coarse sampling and/or high degree of generalization. This paper introduces a data structure that can alleviate this problem, by preserving the attributes and semantic characteristics associated to the original features in cartographic representation. The structure can handle both linear features and polygon outlines. Various compression methods have been examined. The structure has been implemented and tested with both synthetic and real datasets. Extensions to spatiotemporal features, like trajectories, have also been considered. [Termes IGN] simple différenceRésumé : (auteur) We develop a new integrated navigation system, which integrates GPS precise point positioning (PPP) with low-cost micro-electro-mechanical sensors (MEMS) inertial system, for precise positioning applications. Currently, most common GPS PPP techniques employ undifferenced ionosphere-free (IF) linear combination. In this work, both undifferenced and between-satellite single-difference (BSSD) IF linear combinations of pseudorange and carrier measurements are considered. IGS precise orbital and clock products are used to correct for satellite orbit and clock errors. Rigorous models are used to account for tropospheric delay, ocean loading, earth tide, carrier phase windup, relativity and satellite antenna phase-center variations. To integrate GPS PPP and MEMS-based inertial systems, the process and measurement models are developed. Tightly coupled mechanization is adopted, which is carried out in the raw measurements domain. Extended Kalman filter is developed to merge the corrected GPS satellite difference observations and inertial measurements and estimate inertial measurements biases and errors. A atlab-based computer program is developed to carry out the tightly coupled integration. The performance of the proposed integrated system is analyzed using a real test situation. It is shown that decimeter-level positioning accuracy is achievable with both undifferenced and BSSD integrated systems. However, in general, better positioning accuracy is obtained with BSSD integrated system. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Bats are useful animais in our ecosystem and are protected by certain EU directives. Man-made objects such as roads, railways and wind turbines may obstruct their natural flight paths. It is possible to analyse these flight paths by recording the ultrasounds emitted by bats. Using multiple microphones, the time difference in signal arrivai can be used to reconstruct a bat's 3D position. As this is a common positioning technique in the geospatial world, GIS tools have been used to implement bat tracking in a project in France. [Termes IGN] zone d'intérêtRésumé : (auteur) The analysis of social media content for the extraction of geospatial information and event-related knowledge has recently received substantial attention. In this article we present an approach that leverages the complementary nature of social multimedia content by utilizing heterogeneous sources of social media feeds to assess the impact area of a natural disaster. More specifically, we introduce a novel social multimedia triangulation process that uses both Twitter and Flickr content in an integrated two-step process: Twitter content is used to identify toponym references associated with a disaster; this information is then used to provide approximate orientation for the associated Flickr imagery, allowing us to delineate the impact area as the overlap of multiple view footprints. In this approach, we practically crowdsource approximate orientations from Twitter content and use this information to orient Flickr imagery accordingly and identify the impact area through viewshed analysis and viewpoint integration. This approach enables us to avoid computationally intensive image analysis tasks associated with traditional image orientation, while allowing us to triangulate numerous images by having them pointed towards the crowdsourced toponym location. The article presents our approach and demonstrates its performance using a real-world wildfire event as a representative application case study.
