[Termes IGN] tachéomètre électroniqueRésumé : (Auteur) A photogrammetric method is presented for mapping rock outcrops and other objects in the field. Special attention was paid to simplifying the workflow and to minimising extra bulk and weight of the required equipment while maximising the accuracy of the survey. The minimum equipment needed for the surveys added less than 0·5 kg to the backpack of a field scientist, or as little as 0·2 kg assuming that a suitable camera was already part of the typical equipment carried in the field. Data acquisition in the field took less than 15 min, while image orientation and preparation for stereoviewing took less than 30 min even for a user with little training. Best results were accomplished taking two convergent images as well as three images parallel to the object of interest. Two test sites were surveyed with the method, covering volumes of 3·5 * 5 * 3 m3 and 18 * 20 * 5 m3, to identify the most accurate adjustment method. The maximum length measurement error (LME) was calculated for 28 and 78 distances in the smaller and larger volume, respectively, based on a comparison of the photogrammetric survey with an independent total station survey of the same signalised points. The maximum LME ranged between 0·005 and 0·002 m for the first test site where three cameras were tested, and was 0·021 m for the larger test site where only one camera was tested. The rmse values of the LMEs ranged between 0·003 and 0·001 m for the first and 0·010 m for the second test site, respectively. The smallest and lightest camera, a Ricoh GR Digital, yielded the most accurate results in object space when interior orientation was calibrated on the job. The Sigma SD14 did not require on-the-job calibration for accurate results and was the camera with the best geometric stability. The third camera evaluated, a Rollei d7 metric5, also yielded good results, but could not deliver the extra value that would be expected from a metric camera designed for photogrammetric surveys. [Termes IGN] points homologuesRésumé : (Auteur) Direct measurement of exterior orientation parameters has been a challenge in photogrammetry for many years. Direct sensor orientation using a calibrated GPS/INS system can potentially eliminate the need for ground control points and aerial triangulation, and consequently, result in a great reduction in the cost and time of aerial photogrammetry. Previous studies have shown that, compared to conventional aerial triangulation, direct sensor orientation yields larger errors in the image and object space. It has also been shown that including a number of tie points within an integrated orientation approach can result in a reduction of errors in the image space. In this paper, the influence of the number and distribution of tie points on integrated orientation is investigated. Experiments with various numbers of tie points regularly as well as randomly distributed are presented. Results indicate that an increase in the number of tie points up to one point per model results in a considerable reduction of the errors in the image space. [Termes IGN] températureRésumé : (Auteur) Several sources of a priori meteorological data have been compared for their effects on geodetic results from GPS precise point positioning (PPP). The new global pressure and temperature model (GPT), available at the IERS Conventions web site, provides pressure values that have been used to compute a priori hydrostatic (dry) zenith path delay z h estimates. Both the GPT-derived and a simple height-dependent a priori constant z h performed well for low- and mid-latitude stations. However, due to the actual variations not accounted for by the seasonal GPT model pressure values or the a priori constant z h, GPS height solution errors can sometimes exceed 10 mm, particularly in Polar Regions or with elevation cutoff angles less than 10 degrees. Such height errors are nearly perfectly correlated with local pressure variations so that for most stations they partly (and for solutions with 5-degree elevation angle cutoff almost fully) compensate for the atmospheric loading displacements. Consequently, unlike PPP solutions utilizing a numerical weather model (NWM) or locally measured pressure data for a priori z h, the GPT-based PPP height repeatabilities are better for most stations before rather than after correcting for atmospheric loading. At 5 of the 11 studied stations, for which measured local meteorological data were available, the PPP height errors caused by a priori z h interpolated from gridded Vienna Mapping Function-1 (VMF1) data (from a NWM) were less than 0.5 mm. Height errors due to the global mapping function (GMF) are even larger than those caused by the GPT a priori pressure errors. The GMF height errors are mainly due to the hydrostatic mapping and for the solutions with 10-degree elevation cutoff they are about 50% larger than the GPT a priori errors. [Termes IGN] récepteur GPSRésumé : (Auteur) Flexible and cost-effective tools for rapid image acquisition and natural resource mapping are needed by land managers. This paper describes the hardware and software architecture of a low-cost system that can be deployed on a light aircraft for rapid data acquisition. The Hyperspectral and Multispectral Cameras for Airborne Mapping (HAMCAM) was designed and developed in the Geospatial Laboratory for Environmental Dynamics at the University of Idaho as a student-learning tool, and to enhance the existing curriculum currently offered. The system integrates a hyperspectral sensor with four multispectral cameras, an Inertial Navigation System (INS), a Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS)-capable Global Positioning System (GPS), a data acquisition computer, and custom software for running the sensors in a variety of different modes. The outputs include very high resolution imagery obtained in four adjustable visible and near-infrared bands from the multispectral imager. The hyperspectral sensor acquires 240 spectral bands along 2.7 nm intervals within the 445–900 nm range. The INS provides aircraft pitch, roll and yaw information for rapid geo-registration of the imagery. This paper will discuss the challenges associated with the development of the system and the integration of components and software for implementation of this system for natural resource management applications. In addition, sample imagery acquired by the sensor will be presented.
