[Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (Auteur) Location-based social networks (LBSN) have provided new possibilities for researchers to gain knowledge about human spatiotemporal behavior, and to make predictions about how people might behave through space and time in the future. An important requirement of successfully utilizing LBSN in these regards is a thorough understanding of the respective datasets, including their inherent potential as well as their limitations. Specifically, when it comes to predictions, we must know what we can actually expect from the data, and how we could maximize their usefulness. Yet, this knowledge is still largely lacking from the literature. Hence, this work explores one particular aspect which is the theoretical predictability of LBSN datasets. The uncovered predictability is represented with an interval. The lower bound of the interval corresponds to the amount of regular behaviors that can easily be anticipated, and represents the correct predication rate that any algorithm should be able to achieve. The upper bound corresponds to the amount of information that is contained in the dataset, and represents the maximum correct prediction rate that cannot be exceeded by any algorithms. Three Foursquare datasets from three American cities are studied as an example. It is found that, within our investigated datasets, the lower bound of predictability of the human spatiotemporal behavior is 27%, and the upper bound is 92%. Hence, the inherent potentials of the dataset for predicting human spatiotemporal behavior are clarified, and the revealed interval allows a realistic assessment of the quality of predictions and thus of associated algorithms. Additionally, in order to provide further insight into the practical use of the dataset, the relationship between the predictability and the check-in frequencies are investigated from three different perspectives. It was found that the individual perspective provides no significant correlations between the predictability and the check-in frequency. In contrast, the same two quantities are found to be negatively correlated from temporal and spatial perspectives. Our study further indicates that the heavily frequented contexts and some extraordinary geographic features such as airports could be good starting points for effective improvements of prediction algorithms. In general, this research provides novel knowledge regarding the nature of the LBSN dataset and practical insights for a more reasonable utilization of the dataset. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (Editeur) Given different types of constraints on human life, people must make decisions that satisfy social activity needs. Minimizing costs (i.e. distance, time, or money) associated with travel plays an important role in perceived and realized social quality of life. Identifying optimal interaction locations on road networks when there are multiple moving objects (MMO) with space–time constraints remains a challenge. In this research, we formalize the problem of finding dynamic ideal interaction locations for MMO as a spatial optimization model and introduce a context-based geoprocessing heuristic framework to address this problem. As a proof of concept, a case study involving identification of a meetup location for multiple people under traffic conditions is used to validate the proposed geoprocessing framework. Five heuristic methods with regard to efficient shortest-path search space have been tested. We find that the R* tree-based algorithm performs the best with high quality solutions and low computation time. This framework is implemented in a geographic information systems environment to facilitate integration with external geographic contextual information, e.g. temporary road barriers, points of interest, and real-time traffic information, when dynamically searching for ideal meetup sites. The proposed method can be applied in trip planning, carpooling services, collaborative interaction, and logistics management. Based on navigation data start from the mid-1990s to 2016, this paper empirically analyses the spatial pattern of China’s international maritime linkages along the “twenty-first-century Maritime Silk Road”. We interpret such evolutionary dynamics in terms of growth, hierarchical diffusion and networking phases. Networking is a new stage of the evolution of the port system, which is approached based on the graph theory, complex network methods and geomatics, the paper discusses the networking’s basic characteristics: multi-hub spatial agglomeration, the connection of the network develops across space, functional differentiation and a division of labour appear among ports. Our results show that, while the scope of China’s maritime linkages had expanded overtime, more foreign ports become connected to the “Maritime Silk Road”. In addition, the external linkages of domestic ports tend to be dispersed, reflecting upon the decline of Pearl River Delta ports and the rise of Yangtze River Delta ports, with mixed evidence for the Bohai Rim region. Lastly, the analysis underlines the emergence of a polycentric shipping system, from the Hong Kong dominance to the more diversified Shanghai/Ningbo/Shenzhen configuration. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Mobile Mapping (MM) solutions have become a significant extension to traditional data acquisition methods over the last years. Independently from the sensor carried by a platform, may it be laser scanners or cameras, high-resolution data postings are opposing a poor absolute localisation accuracy in urban areas due to GNSS occlusions and multipath effects. Potentially inaccurate position estimations are propagated by IMUs which are furthermore prone to drift effects. Thus, reliable and accurate absolute positioning on a par with MM's high-quality data remains an open issue. Multiple and diverse approaches have shown promising potential to mitigate GNSS errors in urban areas, but cannot achieve decimetre accuracy, require manual effort, or have limitations with respect to costs and avail-ability. This paper presents a fully automatic approach to support the correction of MM imaging data based on correspondences with airborne nadir images. These correspondences can be employed to correct the MM plat-form's orientation by an adjustment solution. Unlike MM as such, aerial images do not suffer from GNSS oc-clusions, and their accuracy is usually verified by employing well-established methods using ground control points. However, a registration between MM and aerial images is a non-standard matching scenario, and requires several strategies to yield reliable and accurate correspondences. Scale, perspective and content strongly vary between both image sources, thus traditional feature matching methods may fail. To this end, the registration process is designed to focus on common and clearly distinguishable elements, such as road markings, manholes, or kerbstones. With a registration accuracy of about 98%, reliable tie information between MM and aerial data can be derived. Even though, the adjustment strategy is not covered in its entirety in this paper, accuracy results after adjustment will be presented. By map matching trajectories to a road network as sequences of road edge IDs, contiguous sequential patterns can be extracted as a certain number of objects traversing a specific path, which provides valuable information in travel demand modeling and transportation planning. Mining and visualization of such patterns still face challenges in efficiency, scalability, and visual cluttering of patterns. To address these challenges, this article firstly proposes a Bidirectional Pruning based Closed Contiguous Sequential pattern Mining (BP-CCSM) algorithm. By employing tree structures to create partitions of input sequences and candidate patterns, closeness can be checked efficiently by comparing nodes in a tree. Secondly, a system called Sequential Pattern Explorer for Trajectories (SPET) is built for spatial and temporal exploration of the mined patterns. Two types of maps are designed where a conventional traffic map gives an overview of the movement patterns and a dynamic offset map presents detailed information according to user-specified filters. Extensive experiments are performed in this article. BP-CCSM is compared with three other state-of-the-art algorithms on two datasets: a small public dataset containing clickstreams from an e-commerce and a large global positioning system dataset with more than 600,000 taxi trip trajectories. The results show that BP-CCSM considerably outperforms three other algorithms in terms of running time and memory consumption. Besides, SPET provides an efficient and convenient way to inspect spatial and temporal variations in closed contiguous sequential patterns from a large number of trajectories.
