Stephen Richardson explains how 3D laser scanners are helping to improve the design of these structures and how use of this technology on a small scale can deliver big benefits. [Termes IGN] Viet NamRésumé : (Auteur) This paper shows the research of coastal morphological changes in Red river delta using Remote Sensing and GIS technique. Study was carried out to assess the intensity of erosion, deposition and sand bar movement in the study area. Satellite images of ALOS/AVNIR-2 and Landsat MSS, TM, ETM+ were used for the monitoring of coastal morphological changes over the period of 1975 to 2009. Band rationing and threshold technique was used for the coastline extraction. Tidal levels at the time of image acquisition varied from 1.47m to 2.72. Therefore, coastline from another image at a different tidal level in the same year was considered to get the corrected coastline by interpolation technique. A series of points were generated along the coastline from 1975 image and were established as reference points to see the change in later periods. The changes were measured in distances from these reference points to the other coastline. Positive values represented deposition to the sea and negative values are erosion. The research showed that maximum erosion was 23.77 m/y between 1975 and 1989 in GiaoThuy, Nam Dinh area.
Human activities, such as shrimp farming and mangrove cultivation have expanded land nearly 3.5 km in Red river mouth and 2.8 km in Thai Binh river mouth from 1975 to 2009. The sand bar movement of the deltas were characterized by their alternating location of coastline, rate of deposition and erosion. In the analysis, sand bars were converted into centerlines for calculation. It was found that the sand bars moved 186 in/year in Red river mouth and 195 m/year in Day river mouth. ALOS/AVNIR-2 and Landsat MSS, TM, ETM+
images were classified to determine land cover changes of the coastal zone over three periods of time.Numéro de notice : A2014-369 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Nature : Article DOI : sans Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=73790

[Termes IGN] trait de côteRésumé : (Auteur) A new approach based on Affine Invariant Feature Matching (AIFM) with a filtering technique is proposed for automatic registration of remotely sensed image in coastal areas. The novelty of this approach is an automatic filtering technique using RANdom SAmple Consensus (RANSAC) with shoreline constraint for AIFM to remove all wrong matches and simultaneously keep as many correct matches as possible. To implement it, a progressive threshold strategy (from small value to large value) is presented to determine an appropriate RANSAC threshold, in which the progressive process is guided by shoreline constraint. The proposed approach (with filtering) is compared with standard AIFM (without filtering) using two typical image pairs in coastal areas. The experimental results indicate that the proposed approach can always provide much better matching results than standard AIFM. [Termes IGN] trait de côteRésumé : (Auteur) Identifying errors (blunders and systematic errors) in coastal geodetic levelling networks has often been problematic, primarily for two reasons. First, mean sea level (MSL) at tide gauges cannot be directly compared to height differences from levelling because the geoid/quasigeoid and MSL are not parallel, being separated by the ocean's mean dynamic topography (MDT). Second, there is a the lack of redundancy at the edge of the levelling network. This article sets out a methodology to independently identify blunders and/or systematic errors (over long distances) in geodetic levelling using MDT models to account for the separation between the geoid/quasigeoid and MSL at tide gauges. This method is then tested in a case study using an oceanographic MDT model, MSL observations, GNSS data, and a quasigeoid model. The results are significant because the errors found could not be detected by standard levelling misclosure checks alone, with supplementary data from an MDT model, with cross-validation from GNSS-quasigeoid allowing their detection. In addition, it appears that an oceanographic-only MDT is as effective as GNSS and a quasigeoid model for detecting levelling errors, which could be particularly useful for countries with coastal levelling errors in their levelling networks that cannot be identified by conventional levelling closure checks.
