[Termes IGN] TrenteRésumé : (Auteur) Accurate crown detection and delineation of dominant and subdominant trees are crucial for accurate inventorying of forests at the individual tree level. The state-of-the-art tree detection and crown delineation methods have good performance mostly with dominant trees, whereas exhibits a reduced accuracy when dealing with subdominant trees. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to accurately detect and delineate both the dominant and subdominant tree crowns in conifer-dominated multistoried forests using small footprint high-density airborne Light Detection and Ranging data. Here, 3-D candidate cloud segments delineated using a canopy height model segmentation technique are projected onto a novel 3-D space where both the dominant and subdominant tree crowns can be accurately detected and delineated. Tree crowns are detected using 2-D features derived from the projected data. The delineation of the crown is performed at the voxel level with the help of both the 2-D features and 3-D texture information derived from the cloud segment. The texture information is modeled by using 3-D Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix. The performance evaluation was done on a set of six circular plots for which reference data are available. The high detection and delineation accuracies obtained over the state of the art prove the performance of the proposed method. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Three-dimensional urban cartography is needed for city changes’ assessment. The variety of studies using 3D calculations of urban elements grows each year. Building and vegetation volumes are necessary to assess and understand spatio-temporal urban changeable environments. However, there are technical questions as to which method can improve 3D urban cartographic accuracy. The innovative part of this current study is the creation of a six-band hybrid obtained from LIDAR and WorldView2 synergy. Two different enhancement algorithms demonstrated the most important spectral features for the urban development and vegetation classes. Results indicated an improvement in accuracy by up to 21.3%, according to the Kappa coefficient. Both infra-red band and intensity band were the most significant, according to the principal components analysis. The synergy delimited classes and polygons, as well as the direct display of information regarding heights of elements and improving the extraction of roads, buildings and vegetation classes. [Termes IGN] LettonieRésumé : (auteur) Countrywide up-to-date tree cover maps provide valuable information for planning and management purposes to investigate location of the resources and to identify afforestation and deforestation patterns. Landsat programme offers freely available satellite data with time span more than three decades and it can serve as bases for tree cover map calculation using satellite image classification; however, practical use of classification methods is limited due to lack of user-friendly solutions and complex interpretation of the results. The objective of this study is to evaluate user-friendly hybrid classification scheme for tree cover mapping in Latvia and to explore the nature of the spectral classes and consistency of the results when methodology is applied to images of different dates. Tree cover in this context means the area covered by crown of the tree, which may or may not be considered as forest according to local provisions. Tree cover is estimated using unsupervised fuzzy c-means methods with the stability check to ensure the presence of the same spectral classes in independent tests. Spectral classes are classified into two categories: tree cover and other by employing k-nearest neighbours. Such approach does not require high quality sample data and does not include user defined internal parameters of the algorithms (however, they can be specified if needed). The best overall accuracy achieved for year 2014 was 94.2% with producer's accuracy 98.7% (tree cover), 90.5% (other land cover), user's accuracy 90.0% (tree cover), 98.8% (other land cover) and kappa 0.89. Consistency studies showed high impact (within 10% of overall accuracy) of unique conditions during the image acquisition. Some of the spectral classes represent borderline case between relatively dense tree cover and other land cover types like sparse young stands. Those cases are the main threat to the consistency between the results of different dates and seasons. [Termes IGN] tsunamiRésumé : (éditeur) The advance in space machineries has created a novel technology for observing and monitoring the Earth from space. Most earth observation remote sensing considerations focus on using conventional image processing algorithms or classic edge detection tools. Nevertheless, these techniques do not implement modern physics, applied mathematics, signal communication, remote sensing data, and innovative space technologies. This book provides readers with methods to comprehend how to monitor coastal environments, disaster areas, and infrastructure from space with advanced talent remote sensing technology to bridge the gaps between modern space technology, image processing algorithms, mathematical models and the critical issue of the coastal and infrastructure investigations.
