[Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (auteur) We present an algorithm for the segmentation of images into background and foreground regions. The proposed algorithm utilizes a physically based formulation of scene appearance which explicitly models the formation of shadows originating from color light sources. This formulation enables a probabilistic model to distinguish between shadows and foreground objects in challenging images. A key component of the proposed method is an algorithm for estimating the illumination arriving at the scene. We evaluate our algorithm using synthetic and real-world data and show that the proposed method performs favorably against other commonly used segmentation methods. [Termes IGN] transformation de FourierRésumé : (auteur) Single image rain streak removal is a well-explored topic in the field of computer vision. The de-raining problem is modeled as an image decomposition task where a rainy image is decomposed into rain-free background image and rain streek map. Unlike most of the existing de-raining methods, this paper attempts to decompose the rainy image in the frequency domain. The idea is inspired by pseudo-periodic characteristics of the noise signal (here the rain streaks) which leave some traces in the frequency domain, and the same can be utilized to predict the noise signal. In this paper, a deep learning-based rain streak prediction model is proposed which learns in discrete Fourier transform Oppenheim and Schafer (Discrete-Time Signal Processing, Prentice Hall, Upper Saddle River, 1989) domain. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first approach where compressed domain coefficients are directly used as input to a deep convolutional neural network. The proposed model has been tested on publicly available synthetic datasets Fu et al. (in: 2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), 2017. https://doi.org/10.1109/CVPR.2017.186, Yang et al. (in: 2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), 2017. https://doi.org/10.1109/CVPR.2017.183), Yeh et al. (in: 2015 IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics-Taiwan, 2015. https://doi.org/10.1109/ICCE-TW.2015.7216999) and results are found to be comparable with the state of the art methods in the spatial domain. The presented analysis and study have an obvious indication to extend transform domain input to train the deep learning architecture especially image de-noising like problems. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Accurate land cover mapping is important for urban planning and management. Remote sensing data have been widely applied for urban land cover mapping. However, obtaining land cover classification via optical remote sensing data alone is difficult due to spectral confusion. To reduce the confusion between dark impervious surface and water, the Sentinel-1A Synthetic Aperture Rader (SAR) data are synergistically combined with the Sentinel-2B Multispectral Instrument (MSI) data. The novel support vector machine with composite kernels (SVM-CK) approach, which can exploit the spatial information, is proposed to process the combination of Sentinel-2B MSI and Sentinel-1A SAR data. The classification based on the fusion of Sentinel-2B and Sentinel-1A data yields an overall accuracy (OA) of 92.12% with a kappa coefficient (KA) of 0.89, superior to the classification results using Sentinel-2B MSI imagery and Sentinel-1A SAR imagery separately. The results indicate that the inclusion of Sentinel-1A SAR data to Sentinel-2B MSI data can improve the classification performance by reducing the confusion between built-up area and water. This study shows that the land cover classification can be improved by fusing Sentinel-2B and Sentinel-1A imagery. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) The goal of this work was to evaluate if routinely collected but seldom used airborne lidar metadata – ‘point attribute data’ (PAD) – analyzed using machine learning/artificial intelligence can improve extraction of shallow-water (less than 20 m) bathymetry from lidar point clouds. Extreme gradient boosting (XGB) models relating PAD to an existing bathymetry/not bathymetry classification were fitted and evaluated for four areas near the Florida Keys. The PAD examined include ‘pulse specific’ information such as the return intensity and PAD describing flight path consistency. The R2 values for the XGB models were between 0.34 and 0.74. Global classification accuracies were above 80% although this reflected a sometimes extreme Bathy/NotBathy imbalance that inflated global accuracy. This imbalance was mitigated by employing a probability decision threshold (PDT) that equalizes the true positive (Bathy) and true negative (NotBathy) rates. It was concluded that 1) the strength of the bathymetric signal in the PAD should be sufficient to increase accuracy of density-based lidar point cloud bathymetry extraction methods and 2) ML can successfully model the relationship between the PAD and the Bathy/NotBathy classification. A method is also presented to examine the spatial and feature-space distribution of errors that will facilitate quality assurance and continuous improvement.
