[Termes IGN] Rhône (bassin)Résumé : (auteur) Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and photogrammetry are two fields that have been boosted these last years. Using aerial means, one can easily acquire aerial data and produce high resolution dense surface models, orthophotos,... IGN (the French Mapping Agency) and CNR (Compagnie Nationale du Rhône, which is the concessionary of the Rhône river and a hydraulic energy producer) have associated themselves on a thesis protect. The aim is to be able to monitor dykes from images acquired by UAV and take benefit from their convenience, targeting a centimetric accuracy on the Z-axis. This article presents our motivations and the problems we have faced in our first experiments. We also worked on a site covered by a terrestrial Lidar survey, and studied how minimizing the bundle adjustment residuals by using different calibrations would influence the quality of the computed models. Finally, we will introduce in a last part our last experiments to get a better understanding of poses estimation accuracy. [Termes IGN] image Landsat-ETM+Résumé : (Auteur) Employing the entropy theory, this paper presents a new and robust multispectral image classification algorithm. The digital number (DN) in remotely sensed multispectral images is considered as a random variable when judging the allocation of unknown pixels into predefined training classes. If an unknown pixel shows a similar DN vector as the pixels in a training class, it will increase the global entropy defined as the sum of DN probabilities multiplied by the logarithm of DN probabilities for all pixels within the training class. The unknown pixel is to be assigned to the class for which the entropy of the training class is increased most due to the inclusion of the pixel. The proposed entropy-based classification (EC) is compared with the maximum likelihood classification (MLC), parallelepiped classification, minimum distance classification, Mahalanobis distance classification (MDC), iterative self-organizing data analysis technique (ISODATA) classification, and K-means classification. These classifiers were applied to a Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus image covering Houston, Texas, USA, acquired on October 16, 1999. A reference land cover map from the National Land Cover Data 2001 of the same area was taken as a ground reference to assess the accuracy of classification results, suggesting that the EC showed comparable overall accuracy as MDC, and they both outperformed other classifiers. The results of MLC can be improved by substituting the multivariate lognormal or gamma distribution for the multivariate normal distribution involved in its assumption. The EC algorithm has the potential to produce reliable land cover maps regardless of the distribution of DN vectors and relevant parameters of probability density functions involved in other classifiers. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) The use of helicopters as a sensor platform offers flexible fields of application due to adaptable flying speed at low flight levels. Modern helicopters are equipped with radar altimeters, inertial navigation systems (INS), forward-looking cameras and even laser scanners for automatic obstacle avoidance. If the 3D geometry of the terrain is already available, the analysis of airborne laser scanner (ALS) measurements may also be used for terrain-referenced navigation and change detection. In this paper, we present a framework for on-the-fly comparison of current ALS data to given reference data of an urban area. In contrast to classical difference methods, our approach extends the concept of occupancy grids known from robot mapping. However, it does not blur the measured information onto the grid cells. The proposed change detection method applies the Dempster–Shafer theory to identify conflicting evidence along the laser pulse propagation path. Additional attributes are considered to decide whether detected changes are of man-made origin or occurring due to seasonal effects. The concept of online change detection has been successfully validated in offline experiments with recorded ALS data streams. Results are shown for an urban test site at which multi-view ALS data were acquired at an interval of 1 year. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) Medium-format digital cameras are a useful tool in airborne lidar missions to produce digital ortho-images. This study investigates the quality of digital elevation models (DEMs) and digital surface models (DSMs) derived from such cameras. An image-matching strategy is used to produce height information from highly overlapping images and the quality of the derived height information is analysed using synchronous lidar point clouds as the reference data. The evaluation focused on various types of land cover and DEM generation methods. The RMSE between lidar and image-derived height information for two datasets was 0·054% and 0·027% of the flying height in flat, bare-earth areas, but studies with manually edited vegetated areas using stereo photogrammetry revealed high uncertainties, especially in steep terrain.
