[Termes IGN] station GNSSRésumé : (auteur) To remove atmospheric pressure loading (ATML) effect from GNSS coordinate time series, surface pressure (SP) models are required to predict the displacements. In this paper, we modeled the 3D ATML surface displacements using the latest MERRA-2 SP grids, together with four other products (NCEP-R-1, NCEP-R-2, ERA-Interim and MERRA) for 596 globally distributed GNSS stations, and compared them with ITRF2014 residual time series. The five sets of ATML displacements are highly consistent with each other, particularly for those stations far away from coasts, of which the lowest correlations in the Up component for all the four models w.r.t MERRA-2 become larger than 0.91. ERA-Interim-derived ATML displacement performs best in reducing scatter of the GNSS height for 90.3% of the stations (89.3% for NCEP-R-1, 89.1% for NCEP-R-2, 86.4% for MERRA and 85.1% for MERRA-2). We think that this may be possibly due to the 4D variational data assimilation method applied. Considering inland stations only, more than 96% exhibit WRMS reduction in the Up direction for all five models, with an average improvement of 3–4% compared with the original ITRF2014 residual time series before ATML correction. Most stations (> 67%) also exhibit horizontal WRMS reductions based on the five models, but of small magnitudes, with most improvements (> 76%) less than 5%. In particular, most stations in South America, South Africa, Oceania and the Southern Oceans show larger WRMS reductions with MERRA-2, while all other four SP datasets lead to larger WRMS reduction for the Up component than MERRA-2 in Europe. Through comparison of the daily pressure variation from the five SP models, we conclude that the bigger model differences in the SP-induced surface displacements and their impacts on the ITRF2014 residuals for coastal/island stations are mainly due to the IB correction based on the different land–sea masks. A unique high spatial resolution land–sea mask should be applied in the future, so that model differences would come from only SP grids. Further research is also required to compare the ATML effect in ice-covered and high mountainous regions, for example the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau in China, the Andes in South America, etc., where larger pressure differences between models tend to occur. [Termes IGN] variationRésumé : (auteur) Although Northern red oak (Quercus rubra L.) is the most important introduced deciduous tree species in Germany, only little is known about its genetic variation. For the first time, we describe patterns of neutral and potentially adaptive nuclear genetic variation in Northern red oak stands across Germany. For this purpose, 792 trees were genotyped including 611 trees from 12 stands in Germany of unknown origin and 181 trees from four populations within the natural distribution area in North America. Our marker set included 12 potentially adaptive (expressed sequence tag-derived simple sequence repeat = EST SSR) and 8 putatively selectively neutral nuclear microsatellite (nSSR) markers. Our results showed that German stands retain comparatively high levels of genetic variation at both EST-SSRs and nSSRs, but are more similar to each other than to North American populations. These findings are in agreement with earlier chloroplast DNA analyses which suggested that German populations originated from a limited geographic area in North America. The comparison between potentially adaptive and neutral microsatellite markers did not reveal differences in the analyzed diversity and differentiation measures for most markers. However, locus FIR013 was identified as a potential outlier locus. Due to the absence of signatures of selection in German stands, we suggest that introduced populations were established with material from provenances that were adapted to environmental conditions similar to those in Germany. However, we analyzed only a limited number of loci which are unlikely to be representative of adaptive genetic differences among German stands. Our results suggest that the apparent introduction from a limited geographic range in North America may go along with a reduced adaptive potential. [Termes IGN] trace numériqueRésumé : (auteur) The temporal nature of humans interaction with Points of Interest (POIs) in cities can differ depending on place type and regional location. Times when many people are likely to visit restaurants (place type) in Italy, may differ from times when many people are likely to visit restaurants in Lebanon (i.e. regional differences). Geosocial data are a powerful resource to model these temporal differences in cities, as traditional methods used to study cross-cultural differences do not scale to a global level. As cities continue to grow in population and economic development, research identifying the social and geophysical (e.g., climate) factors that influence city function remains important and incomplete. In this work, we take a quantitative approach, applying dynamic time warping and hierarchical clustering on temporal signatures to model geosocial temporal patterns for Retail and Restaurant Facebook POIs hours of operation for more than 100 cities in 90 countries around the world. Results show cities’ temporal patterns cluster to reflect the cultural region they represent. Furthermore, temporal patterns are influenced by a mix of social and geophysical factors. Trends in the data suggest social factors influence unique drops in temporal signatures, and geophysical factors influence when daily temporal patterns start and finish. [Termes IGN] TibetRésumé : (Auteur) Time series of leaf area index (LAI) products are now widely used, and the temporal validation is the prerequisite for their proper application. However, a systematical comparison between different products using both direct and indirect methods is still lacking. The objective of this paper is to assess and compare the temporal performances of four LAI products: Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) LAI (MOD)15A2, MOD15A2h, Geoland2 Version 1 (GEOV1), and Global Land Surface Satellite (GLASS). The study area, which is dominated by grasslands, is located in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau (TP), and temperature is the main stress factor affecting grass growth. Both a correlation analysis with temperature and a direct comparison with temporally continuous LAI reference maps were implemented in our temporal validation experiments. The results show that no single product can capture the rapid change and the seasonal trend in LAI simultaneously, and the compositing period used in each product determines the quality of the corresponding LAI time series. The MOD15A2 and MOD15A2h products, which have short compositing windows (eight days), are suitable for detecting rapid change. A grazing-induced biomass decrease that occurred around day of year 205 in 2014 in our study area was clearly revealed in these two products. For the GEOV1 and GLASS products, which have compositing windows of 30 days and 1 year, respectively, the grazing date was shifted (GEOV1) or even invisible (GLASS). However, products with prolonged compositing windows may be more robust to observation noise, and the resulting products may be suitable for capturing the seasonal trend. This study highlights that the concurrent use of data from various sensors onboard different satellites, and the introduction of new generations of satellites (e.g., Gaofen-6), are two promising ways to further improve existing LAI time series.
