[Termes IGN] Rotation Forest classificationRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we propose a new spectral-spatial classification strategy to enhance the classification performances obtained on hyperspectral images by integrating rotation forests and Markov random fields (MRFs). First, rotation forests are performed to obtain the class probabilities based on spectral information. Rotation forests create diverse base learners using feature extraction and subset features. The feature set is randomly divided into several disjoint subsets; then, feature extraction is performed separately on each subset, and a new set of linear extracted features is obtained. The base learner is trained with this set. An ensemble of classifiers is constructed by repeating these steps several times. The weak classifier of hyperspectral data, classification and regression tree (CART), is selected as the base classifier because it is unstable, fast, and sensitive to rotations of the axes. In this case, small changes in the training data of CART lead to a large change in the results, generating high diversity within the ensemble. Four feature extraction methods, including principal component analysis (PCA), neighborhood preserving embedding (NPE), linear local tangent space alignment (LLTSA), and linearity preserving projection (LPP), are used in rotation forests. Second, spatial contextual information, which is modeled by MRF prior, is used to refine the classification results obtained from the rotation forests by solving a maximum a posteriori problem using the α-expansion graph cuts optimization method. Experimental results, conducted on three hyperspectral data with different resolutions and different contexts, reveal that rotation forest ensembles are competitive with other strong supervised classification methods, such as support vector machines. Rotation forests with local feature extraction methods, including NPE, LLTSA, and LPP, can lead to higher classification accuracies than that achieved by PCA. With the help of MRF, the proposed algorithms can improve the classification accuracies significantly, confirming the importance of spatial contextual information in hyperspectral spectral-spatial classification. [Termes IGN] Web Map ServiceRésumé : (Auteur) The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Map Service (WMS) and Styled Layer Descriptor (SLD) standards define a way of dynamically producing maps from vector data. However, this dynamic process often results in maps that are not easily readable when the underlying data are automatically represented at smaller scales than the original data were intended for. Fortunately, the SLD rules can be decoded, the symbolization rules translated into geometrical features, and cartographic conflicts detected and partially solved. The conflicting features can be identified based on the use of few basic geospatial analysis functions. After a solution that minimizes these conflicts emerges, new SLD rules are generated that attempt to visually solve the cartographic conflicts. The new SLD rules can then be applied on-demand by a cartographic proxy server that rewrites the incoming GetMap requests to use the new SLD rules. The process for improving the WMS cartographic output has several stages, grouped into preparatory steps (basic automatic generalization methods, rough scale-dependent SLD symbolization) and real-time processing steps (detection of cartographic conflicts, conflicts solution and generation of new SLD rules). The entire process of detecting and solving cartographic conflicts in the maps produced by WMS through the use of overriding SLD rules is described in detail. Furthermore, it is conceivable to transform the conflicting features into spatial objects containing methods for discovering appropriate SLD values that minimize conflicts. Such approaches can bring the performance of automatic detection and correction of cartographic conflicts above the threshold required for interactive visualization, thus, making the process of dynamically solving cartographic conflicts in WMS servers a viable solution. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an original methodology for the construction of a harmonized database for urban areas in the United States from 1790 to 2010 (a period with a census every 10 years, amounting to 23 dates). Upstream, this method is based on a theoretical choice, the use of a spatio-temporal reference frame to construct urban areas over the long term, defined by a maximum range of one hour’s travel for each period. We used an automatic aggregation from a Reilly model. Urban measures (growth, concentration) derived from this harmonized database are then presented, providing a unified picture of urbanization in the United States over more than two centuries. They are compared with results derived from more classical databases established using the official figures from the Census Bureau, or from other constructions differing from the present system. The results diverge considerably in some instances, which confirms the impact of the method of delineation of geographical areas in measures of growth. [Termes IGN] requête spatiale inverseRésumé : (auteur) A reverse k-nearest neighbour (RkNN) query determines the objects from a database that have the query as one of their k-nearest neighbors. Processing such a query has received plenty of attention in research. However, the effect of running multiple RkNN queries at once (join) or within a short time interval (bulk/group query) has only received little attention so far. In this paper, we analyze different types of RkNN joins and provide a classification of existing RkNN join algorithms. We discuss possible solutions for solving the non-trivial variants of the problem in vector spaces, including self and mutual pruning strategies. Further, we generalize the developed algorithms to general metric spaces. During an extensive performance analysis we provide evaluation results showing the IO and CPU performance of the compared algorithms for a wide range of different setups and suggest appropriate query algorithms for specific scenarios.
