[Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) The report considers the designing of Symbol System for 3D City Maps. A comparative characteristic between symbol system of 2D and 3D City Maps is done. A topic concerning classification of mapping objects considered. The principles of coding, grouping and hierarchic organization of objects' database are proposed. The rules for symbol designing are defined. A structure of vector and raster data for symbol designing is proposed. Some research experiments concerning the designing and modeling of symbol system are done. More than 50 symbols are created and a 3D map of central part of Sofia City, capital of Bulgaria is designed. The map consists more than 300 objects, including roads, buildings, green areas and symbols with 70 000 faces and 40 000 vertices. Different kind of images are processed and prepared for texture palette used for symbol modeling. The symbols are used for representing of city objects as surveying points, transport stations, traffics signs and lights, information labels, symbols for special buildings and others. The using of symbol system for 3D cartographic modeling could safe time, work and money and would bring the ergonomic and economic effects for map designers. Two AVI files created using the designed map for visualization purposes show animated maps. [Termes IGN] zone d'intérêtRésumé : (auteur) The aim of this application is to detect changes in an aerial scene by comparing stereo pairs taken at intervals of several years in order to update a database. The result is a set of image locations that have a high likelihood to contain changes. Each location will be submitted to a human operator who will either validate the given change and update the database or reject it. We are mainly interested in changes occurring for a specific class of objects: buildings. To isolate new construction, we provide an algorithm that works in two steps. First, during a focusing phase, we aim to eliminate a large part of the scene without losing any actual changes. This is achieved with a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) comparison between the two different dates. Then, in the second phase, we classify regions of interest (ROI). Each ROI is described by four images: a stereo pair of the focusing area at the first date and a stereo pair of the focusing area at the second date. To decide whether or not the ROI contains a change, we classify each of the four images as building or non-building. The building vs non-building classifier is a combination of several decision trees induced by learning. Each node of a decision tree is identified with a graph of features which is more likely to describe buildings than background. Finally, the classification results at the two different dates are compared. [Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Based on the detection of storm losses in Swiss alpine forest areas, two different digital classification approaches were compared. In contrast to the pixel based classification we investigated an object-oriented classification procedure. The eCognition software package of Definiens offers this possibility. The comparison was performed for images with different spatial resolution - very high resolution images of IKONOS, and images of SPOT in the sharpened mode. The evaluation of the IKONOS image indicated a significantly higher accuracy for the object-oriented classification approach than for the pixel-based method. The eCognition software handles the high level of detail and the associated high texture better than the pixelbased parallelepiped-algorithm. The quality of the pixel-based approach, which takes into account only the spectral information and some derived data-products is limited for very high resolution images. The classification of the SPOT presented approximately the same results for both methods.
