[Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) This paper investigates the problem of change detection in multitemporal synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. Our motivation is to avoid using a large-size dense neighborhood around each pixel to measure its change level, which is usually considered by classical methods in order to perform their accurate detectors. Therefore, we propose to develop a pointwise approach to detect land-cover changes between two SAR images employing the principle of signal processing on graphs. First, a set of characteristic points is extracted from one of the two images to capture the image's significant contextual information. A weighted graph is then constructed to encode the interaction among these keypoints and hence capture the local geometric structure of this first image. With regard to this graph, the coherence of the information carried by the two images is considered for measuring changes between them. In other words, the change level will depend on how much the second image still conforms to the graph structure constructed from the first image. Additionally, due to the presence of speckle noise in SAR imaging, the log-ratio operator will be exploited to perform the image comparison measure. Experimental results performed on real SAR images show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, in terms of detection performance and computational complexity, compared to classical methods. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The usefulness of remote sensing (RS), geographical information systems, and ground observations for monitoring changes in urban areas has been demonstrated through many examples over the last two decades. Research has generally focused on the relief phase following a disaster, but we have instead investigated the subsequent phases involving early recovery, recovery, and development. Our aim was to determine to what extent integration of the available tools, techniques, and methods can be used to efficiently monitor the progress of recovery following an earthquake. Changes in buildings within the Italian city of L’Aquila following the 2009 earthquake were identified from Earth observation data and are used as indicators of progress in the recovery process. These changes were identified through (1) visual analysis, (2) automated change detection using a set of decision rules formulated within an object-based image analysis framework, and (3) validation based on a combination of visual and semiautomated interpretations. An accuracy assessment of the automated analysis showed a producer accuracy of 81% (error of omission: 19%) and a user accuracy of 55% (error of commission: 45%). The use of RS made it possible for the identification of changes to be spatially exhaustive, and also to increase the number of categories used for a recovery index. In addition, using RS allowed the area requiring extensive fieldwork (to monitor the progress of the recovery process) to be reduced. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) This paper introduces robust algorithms for extracting the ground points in laser scanning 3-D point cloud data. Global polynomial functions have been used for filtering algorithms for point cloud data; however, it is not suitable as it may lead to bias for the filtering algorithms and can cause misclassification errors when many different objects are present. In this paper, robust statistical approaches are coupled with locally weighted 2-D regression that fits without any predefined global function for the variables of interest. Algorithms are performed iteratively on 2-D profiles: x - z and y - z. The z (elevation) values are robustly down weighted based on the residuals for the fitted points. The new set of down-weighted z values, along with the corresponding x (or y) values, is used to get a new fit for the lower surface level. The process of fitting and down weighting continues until the difference between two consecutive fits is insignificant. The final fit is the required ground level, and the ground surface points are those that fall within the ground level and the level after adding some threshold value with the ground level for z values. Experimental results are compared with the recently proposed segmentation method through simulated and real mobile laser scanning point clouds from urban areas that include many objects that appear in road scenes such as short walls, large buildings, electric poles, signposts, and cars. Results show that the proposed robust methods efficiently extract ground surface points with better than 97% accuracy. Related studies, e.g. vehicle detection and classification, mostly focus on static images or video. Whereas mobile laser scanning (MLS) systems are increasingly utilized for urban street environment perception due to their direct 3D information acquisition, high accuracy and movability. In this paper, we design a complete system for car park monitoring, including vehicle recognition, localization, classification and change detection, from laser scanning point clouds. The experimental data are acquired by an MLS system using high frequency laser scanner which scans the streets vertically along the system’s moving trajectory. The point clouds are firstly classified as ground, building façade, and street objects which are then segmented using state-of-the-art methods. Each segment is treated as an object hypothesis, and its geometric features are extracted. Moreover, a deformable vehicle model is fitted to each object. By fitting an explicit model to the vehicle points, detailed information, such as precise position and orientation, can be obtained. The model parameters are also treated as vehicle features. Together with the geometric features, they are applied to a supervised learning procedure for vehicle or non-vehicle recognition. The classes of detected vehicles are also investigated. Whether vehicles have changed across two datasets acquired at different times is detected to estimate the durations. Here, vehicles are trained pair-wisely. Two same or different vehicles are paired up as training samples. As a result, the vehicle recognition, classification and change detection accuracies are 95.9%, 86.0% and 98.7%, respectively. Vehicle modelling improves not only the recognition rate, but also the localization precision compared to bounding boxes. [Termes IGN] mineraiRésumé : (Auteur) We have attempted comparative analysis of the utility of linear spectral unmixing (LSU) method and band ratios for delineating bauxite from laterite within the lateritic bauxite provinces of Chotonagpur Plateau, Jharkhand of India. This was attempted based on processing of visible–near infrared (VNIR) and shortwave infrared (SWIR) spectral bands of Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) sensor. In LSU method, spectral features of main constituent minerals of lateritic bauxite are used to decompose the pixel spectra to estimate the relative abundance of bauxite and laterite in each pixel to spatially delineate bauxite within laterite. We have also compared the bauxite map derived using LSU method with bauxite maps of two band ratios in terms of spatial disposition of bauxite. We also have attempted to relate the abundance values of pixels of LSU-based bauxite map with band ratio values of bauxite pixels of two selected bauxite indices.
