[Termes IGN] programmation dynamiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The extraction of the third dimension from remote sensing data is a well known technique. Since in a number of countries aerial images and laser scanner data are unavailable, expensive or classified, stereoscopic high-resolution optical satellite images provide a viable alternative for generating digital surface and digital terrain models. Especially the automatic extraction of highly accurate 3D surface models in urban areas is still a very complicated task due to occlusions, large differences in height and the variety of objects and surface material. In this paper, an analysis and a visual and quantitative comparison of three different matching algorithms for generating urban DSMs based on very high-resolution satellite images is presented. The three algorithms are least squares matching (lsm) in a region growing fashion, dynamic programming (DP) and semiglobal matching (sgm). The characteristics of the three algorithms as applied to four different Ikonos stereo pairs with a ground sampling distance of 1 m are shown. The following results were obtained: visually, in the lsm results the shape of the buildings is considerably smoothed. While in the DP results the building shape is sharper, only little detail is visible on the building roofs, and streaking along the epipolar lines causes problems. With SGM, more details can be extracted and the results visually have the best quality. Based on reference data for the different test sites, the standard deviation of the building heights determined by LSM and DP is in the range of one pixel or slightly better, while it is in the range of half a pixel for SGM. A semi-local implementation of is also proposed, making the description robust to viewpoint changes. We evaluate for image retrieval under the query-by-example paradigm, on contents represented with interest points in a bag-of-features model: it improves state-of-the-art techniques, in terms of retrieval quality as well as of execution time, and is scalable. Finally, its effectiveness is evaluated on a topical scenario dedicated to scene retrieval in datasets of city landmarks. [Termes IGN] processus ponctuel marquéRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents a new stochastic marked point process for describing images in terms of a finite library of geometric objects. Image analysis based on conventional marked point processes has already produced convincing results but at the expense of parameter tuning, computing time, and model specificity. Our more general multimarked point process has simpler parametric setting, yields notably shorter computing times, and can be applied to a variety of applications. Both linear and areal primitives extracted from a library of geometric objects are matched to a given image using a probabilistic Gibbs model, and a Jump-Diffusion process is performed to search for the optimal object configuration. Experiments with remotely sensed images and natural textures show that the proposed approach has good potential. We conclude with a discussion about the insertion of more complex object interactions in the model by studying the compromise between model complexity and efficiency. [Termes IGN] urbanisationRésumé : (Auteur) The impervious surface area (ISA) has emerged not only as an indicator of the degree of urbanization, but also as a major indicator of environmental quality for drainage basin management. However, since almost all of the methods for estimating ISA have been developed for urban environments, it is questionable whether these methods can be successfully applied to drainage basins, such as those found in Japan, which usually have more complicated vegetation components (e.g. paddy field, plowed field and dense forest). This paper presents a pre-screened and normalized multiple endmember spectral mixture analysis (PNMESMA) method, which includes a new endmember selection strategy and an integration of the normalized spectral mixture analysis (NSMA) and multiple endmember spectral mixture analysis (MESMA), for estimating the ISA fraction in Lake Kasumigaura Basin, Japan. This new proposed method is superior to the previous methods in that the estimation error of the proposed method is much smaller than the previous SMA- or NSMA-based methods for drainage basin environments. The overall root mean square error was reduced to 5.2%, and no obvious underestimation or overestimation occurred for high or low ISA areas. Through the assessment of environmental quality in Lake Kasumigaura Basin using the ISA fraction, the results showed that the basin has been in the impacted category since 1987, and that in the two decades since, the environmental quality has continued to decline. If this decline continues, then Lake Kasumigaura Basin will fall into the degraded category by 2017.
