[Termes IGN] trafic routierRésumé : (auteur) Deep neural networks come as an effective solution to many problems associated with autonomous driving. By providing real image samples with traffic context to the network, the model learns to detect and classify elements of interest, such as pedestrians, traffic signs, and traffic lights. However, acquiring and annotating real data can be extremely costly in terms of time and effort. In this context, we propose a method to generate artificial traffic-related training data for deep traffic light detectors. This data is generated using basic non-realistic computer graphics to blend fake traffic scenes on top of arbitrary image backgrounds that are not related to the traffic domain. Thus, a large amount of training data can be generated without annotation efforts. Furthermore, it also tackles the intrinsic data imbalance problem in traffic light datasets, caused mainly by the low amount of samples of the yellow state. Experiments show that it is possible to achieve results comparable to those obtained with real training data from the problem domain, yielding an average mAP and an average F1-score which are each nearly 4 p.p. higher than the respective metrics obtained with a real-world reference model. [Termes IGN] pictogrammeRésumé : (auteur) In this work, realistically drawn objects are identified on digital maps by convolutional neural networks. For the first two experiments, 6200 images were retrieved from Pinterest. While alternating image input options, two binary classifiers based on Xception and InceptionResNetV2 were trained to separate maps and pictorial maps. Results showed that the accuracy is 95–97% to distinguish maps from other images, whereas maps with pictorial objects are correctly classified at rates of 87–92%. For a third experiment, bounding boxes of 3200 sailing ships were annotated in historic maps from different digital libraries. Faster R-CNN and RetinaNet were compared to determine the box coordinates, while adjusting anchor scales and examining configurations for small objects. A resulting average precision of 32% was obtained for Faster R-CNN and of 36% for RetinaNet. Research outcomes are relevant for trawling map images on the Internet and for enhancing the advanced search of digital map catalogues. [Termes IGN] trait de côteRésumé : (auteur) Interaction between land subsidence and sea level rise (SLR) increases the hazard in coastal areas, mainly for deltas, characterized by flat topography and with great social, ecological, and economic value. Coastal areas need continuous monitoring as a support for human intervention to reduce the hazard. Po River Delta (PRD, northern Italy) in the past was affected by high values of artificial land subsidence: even if at low rates, anthropogenic settlements are currently still in progress and produce an increase of hydraulic risk due to the loss of surface elevation both of ground and levees. Many authors have provided scenarios for the next decades with increased flooding in densely populated areas. In this work, a contribution to the understanding future scenarios based on the morphological changes that occurred in the last century on the PRD coastal area is provided: planimetric variations are reconstructed using two archival cartographies (1911 and 1924), 12 multi-temporal high-resolution aerial photogrammetric surveys (1933, 1944, 1949, 1955, 1962, 1969, 1977, 1983, 1990, 1999, 2008, and 2014), and four LiDAR (light detection and ranging) datasets (acquired in 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2018): obtained results, in terms of emerged surfaces variations, are linked to the available land subsidence rates (provided by leveling, GPS—global positioning system, and SAR—synthetic aperture radar data) and to the expected SLR values, to perform scenarios of the area by 2100: results of this work will be useful to mitigate the hazard by increasing defense systems and preventing the risk of widespread flooding. [Termes IGN] variableRésumé : (auteur) Speckle noise inherent in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images seriously affects the visual effect and brings great difficulties to the postprocessing of the SAR image. Due to the edge-preserving feature, total variation (TV) regularization-based techniques have been extensively utilized to reduce the speckle. However, the strong scatters in SAR image with radiometry several orders of magnitude larger than their surrounding regions limit the effectiveness of TV regularization. Meanwhile, the ℓ1 -norm first-order TV regularization sometimes causes staircase artifacts as it favors solutions that are piecewise constant, and it usually underestimates high-amplitude components of image gradient as the ℓ1 -norm uniformly penalizes the amplitude. To overcome these shortcomings, a new hybrid variation model, called Fisher–Tippett (FT) distribution- ℓp -norm first-and second-order hybrid TVs (HTpVs), is proposed to reduce the speckle after removing the strong scatters. Especially, the FT-HTpV inherits the advantages of the distribution based data fidelity term, the nonconvex regularization, and the higher order TV regularization. Therefore, it can effectively remove the speckle while preserving point scatters and edges and reducing staircase artifacts well. To efficiently solve the nonconvex minimization problem, an iterative framework with a nonmonotone-accelerated proximal gradient (nmAPG) method and a matrix-vector acceleration strategy are used. Extensive experiments on both the simulated and real SAR images demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. In this paper, we propose a deep-learning based approach which jointly learns an intermediate level shared feature for these two tasks, so that the hand gesture recognition task can be benefited from the hand pose estimation task. In the training process, a semi-supervised training scheme is designed to solve the problem of lacking proper annotation. Our approach detects the foreground hand, recognizes the hand gesture, and estimates the corresponding 3D hand pose simultaneously. To evaluate the hand gesture recognition performance of the state-of-the-arts, we propose a challenging hand gesture recognition dataset collected in unconstrained environments. Experimental results show that, the gesture recognition accuracy of ours is significantly boosted by leveraging the knowledge learned from the hand pose estimation task.
