[Termes IGN] zone tropicale humideRésumé : (Auteur) Land-cover classification with remotely sensed data in moist tropical regions is a challenge due to the complex biophysical conditions. This paper explores techniques to improve land-cover classification accuracy through a comparative analysis of different combinations of spectral signatures and textures from Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) and Radarsat data. A wavelet-merging technique was used to integrate Landsat ETM+ multispectral and panchromatic data or Radarsat data. Grey-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) textures based on Landsat ETM+ panchromatic or Radarsat data and different sizes of moving windows were examined. A maximum-likelihood classifier was used to implement image classification for different combinations. This research indicates the important role of textures in improving land-cover classification accuracies in Amazonian environments. The incorporation of data fusion and textures increases classification accuracy by approximately 5.8-6.9% compared to Landsat ETM+ data, but data fusion of Landsat ETM+ multispectral and panchromatic data or Radarsat data cannot effectively improve land-cover classification accuracies. [Termes IGN] photo-interprétation assistée par ordinateurRésumé : (Auteur) The current study addresses the problem of the identification of each natural material present in each pixel of a hyperspectral image. Two end member extraction methods from hyperspectral imagery were studied: the N-FindR method and the independent component analysis (ICA). The N-FindR is an automatic technique that selects extreme points (end members) of an n-dimensional scatter plot. It assumes the existence of pure pixels in the distribution, which is infrequent in practice. ICA is a blind source separation technique studied in the signal processing community, which allows each spectrum of natural elements (end member spectra) to be extracted from the observation of some linear combinations of these. It considers a more realistic situation than N-FindR, assuming a spectra mixture for all the pixels. To increase the robustness of ICA, continuum-removed reflectance spectra were used and an iterative algorithm was introduced that takes into account a major part of the available information. The end member abundances were estimated by the fully constrained least squares spectral mixture analysis (FLCS). The end member identification and quantification were carried out on two surficial formations of a semi arid region located in the Rehoboth region, in Namibia, from hyperspectral Hyperion data. It appears that the two end member extraction methods have a similar potential. Whichever end member extraction method is used, the analysis of the rock abundance maps produces a lot of geological information: the distribution of natural elements is in line with the field observations and allows the description of the formation processes of surficial units. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (Auteur) Numerous approaches have been developed to quantify the distribution of impervious surfaces using remote sensing technologies. Most of these approaches have been applied to data from a single time period, typically in the summer season (June to September). Presently, it is not clear whether there is an optimal time for impervious surface estimation with these methods. In this paper, the seasonal sensitivity of impervious surface estimation is examined. In particular, Landsat TM/ETM+ imagery for four different seasons has been acquired for the environs of Franklin County, Ohio. Two impervious surface estimation methods, spectral mixture analysis and regression modeling, are used to test for seasonal variations. Results indicate that the summer image provides better accuracy with the spectral mixture analysis method, while consistent accuracies are obtained for all four seasons with regression modeling. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) The sub-pixel location of interest points is one of the most important tasks in refined image-based 3D reconstruction in digital photogrammetry. The interest point detectors based on the Harris principles are generally used for stereoscopic image matching and subsequent 3D reconstruction. However, the locations of the interest points detected in this way can only be obtained to 1 pixel accuracy. The Harris detector has the following characteristics: (1) the Harris interest strength, which denotes the distinctiveness of an interest point, is a grey scale descriptor which computes the gradient at each sample point in a region around the point, and (2) the Harris interest strengths of the pixels in a template window centred on the interest point exhibit an approximately paraboloid distribution. This paper proposes a precise location method to improve the precision of the interest points on the basis of these characteristics of the Harris interest strength. Firstly, a least squares fit of a paraboloid function to the image grey scale surface using the Harris interest strength is designed in a template window and a Gaussian-distance algorithm is employed to determine the weight. Then, the precise coordinates of this interest point are obtained by calculating the extremities of the fitting surface. The location accuracy of this method is studied both from the theoretical and the practical point of view. Experimental analysis is illustrated with synthetic images as well as actual images, which yielded a location accuracy of 0·15 pixels. Furthermore, experimental results also indicate that this method has the desired anti-image-noise and efficiency characteristics.
