[Termes IGN] température de l'airRésumé : (Auteur) In absence of other limitations, the growth rate of a plant is dependent upon the amount of heat it receives. Each species, whether a crop, weed or disease organism, is adapted to grow at its optimum rate within a specific temperature range. Within this range, the growing degree days (GDD) is the heat accumulation above a given base temperature for a specific time period, such as a crop's growing season or phenological stage. In this paper we detail a methodology to predict GDD for synthetically generated average growing seasons derived from long term average climate data over the Australian continent. An application of these techniques has been made using the GEODATA 9 second DEM, with temperature threshold values estimated to characterize optimum growth in citrus (Citrus sinensis (L) Osbeek). Three major determinants of the annual growth cycle of Citrus sp. were established and predicted on a spatial basis including the starting day of the growing season, the GDD for a growing season, and the time required to accumulate an arbitrarily selected 2000 GDD from the estimated starting day. When these critical environmental factors are expressed on a spatial basis, covering the Australian continent, the combination can be used to identify locations where new crop varieties can most effectively be grown to maximize fruit quality and productivity, or to extend the harvest season. Likewise, new germplasm introduced to Australia from overseas can be horticulturally assessed at sites climatically matched to the source location. This should be done in a way that the transition from one to another orthoimage cannot be seen. The production line of orthoimages consists of several steps, each of which can introduce a different appearance regarding geometry, radiometry and spectral properties to the resulting orthoimage. For mosaicking adjacent orthoimages, a path of lowest difference in a combination of criteria is searched in the overlap area of these images. The seamline is chosen along this path of maximum similarity. In this paper, criteria for such an optimal seamline in colour orthoimages are elaborated. The main requirements are on one hand high colour similarity of the images (mainly in hue and intensity), and on the other hand high texture similarity (in orientation and magnitude of image gradients). The specified criteria are formulated in the energy function of snakes. A snake is an active contour which moves through an image and changes its shape until a minimum of its energy function is found. We use two snakes that attract one another (twin snakes). In a hierarchical strategy, a proper seamline is delineated fully automatically. The potential of the method is shown with an example. Note de contenu : 1 - INTRODUCTION

[Termes IGN] processus ponctuelRésumé : (auteur) This work aims at detecting buildings in digital aerial photographs. We model a set of buildings by a configuration of objects. We define a point process on the set of configurations, which could be divided into two parts: the first one is a prior model on the configurations which uses interactions between objects. The second one is a data model which enforces the coherence with the images. Thus we obtain a distribution /spl pi/ which has to be maximized. In order to achieve this maximum, we use a Monte Carlo Markov Chain simulation-a Metropolis-Hastings-Green algorithm-mixed with simulated annealing. Then we test this method on both synthetic and real data. [Termes IGN] zone d'intérêtRésumé : (auteur) The aim of this application is to detect changes in an aerial scene by comparing stereo pairs taken at intervals of several years in order to update a database. The result is a set of image locations that have a high likelihood to contain changes. Each location will be submitted to a human operator who will either validate the given change and update the database or reject it. We are mainly interested in changes occurring for a specific class of objects: buildings. To isolate new construction, we provide an algorithm that works in two steps. First, during a focusing phase, we aim to eliminate a large part of the scene without losing any actual changes. This is achieved with a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) comparison between the two different dates. Then, in the second phase, we classify regions of interest (ROI). Each ROI is described by four images: a stereo pair of the focusing area at the first date and a stereo pair of the focusing area at the second date. To decide whether or not the ROI contains a change, we classify each of the four images as building or non-building. The building vs non-building classifier is a combination of several decision trees induced by learning. Each node of a decision tree is identified with a graph of features which is more likely to describe buildings than background. Finally, the classification results at the two different dates are compared.
