Most of the methods, however, are based on radiometric changes and are suffering from high false alarms rate due to irrelevant radiometric changes. Change detection based on the elevation difference between two dates, therefore, seems a good alternative to identify relevant changes, especially in a context of urban change detection. In the present work, we provide a fully automatic method of change detection based on a digital surface model (DSM) comparison. The processing flow includes the bundle block adjustment of all the available data as a preprocessing step, followed by an improved DSM generation scheme and a differential DSM analysis. The last two steps have been formulated as labeling problems and solved by an optimization method with a spatial regularization constraint. The solution of these labeling problems is computed with a generalized dynamic programming algorithm that is adapted according to the input data and the defined labels. The final DSMs reach a planimetric and altimetric resolution of about 1 m, allowing changes from 20nbspm2 to be detected. The results show that 33%-75% (respectively about 95%) of all changes (respectively, changes larger than 100nbspm2) are detected, depending on the employed regularization and the area. Moreover, the calculated kappa coefficient of the processing flow reaches up to 0.80, which emphasizes the method accuracy. All the above features lead to a significant gain compared to the classical visual image analysis. [Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (Auteur) Methods to estimate forest biomass change have been investigated using experimental P-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data from the recent airborne campaigns BioSAR 2007 and BioSAR 2010 conducted over a hemiboreal test site in southern Sweden. Regression models based on backscatter change were developed using reference biomass change maps derived from high-density laser scanning data. Different regression models were developed for linear, square root, and logarithmic biomass change scales. The models were compared to the change maps based on laser data using twofold cross-validation, and estimation errors were evaluated using six 80 m by 80 m plots with detailed in situ measurements. The results indicate that the root-mean-square error of biomass change estimates based on P-band SAR backscatter data is about 15% or 20 t/ha. This suggests that not only clear-cuts but also growth and thinning can be measured. Simulations were performed in order to evaluate the possibility of using a spaceborne P-band SAR for measurements of forest biomass change. The simulations show that, with 64 equivalent number of looks (ENL) and a 50% change in biomass, it is possible to correctly indicate whether the forest has gained or lost biomass. Similarly, for a biomass loss of more than 75%, a correct indication of the sign of biomass change can be achieved with only 8 ENL. [Termes IGN] traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) The changing distribution of surface mass (oceans, atmospheric pressure, continental water storage, groundwater, lakes, snow and ice) causes detectable changes in the shape of the solid Earth, on time scales ranging from hours to millennia. Transient changes in the Earth’s shape can, regardless of cause, be readily separated from steady secular variation in surface mass loading, but other secular changes due to plate tectonics and glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) cannot. We estimate secular station velocities from almost 11 years of high quality combined GPS position solutions (GPS weeks 1,000–1,570) submitted as part of the first international global navigation satellite system service reprocessing campaign. Individual station velocities are estimated as a linear fit, paying careful attention to outliers and offsets. We remove a suite of a priori GIA models, each with an associated set of plate tectonic Euler vectors estimated by us; the latter are shown to be insensitive to the a priori GIA model. From the coordinate time series residuals after removing the GIA models and corresponding plate tectonic velocities, we use mass-conserving continental basis functions to estimate surface mass loading including the secular term. The different GIA models lead to significant differences in the estimates of loading in selected regions. Although our loading estimates are broadly comparable with independent estimates from other satellite missions, their range highlights the need for better, more robust GIA models that incorporate 3D Earth structure and accurately represent 3D surface displacements.
