[Termes IGN] surface imperméableRésumé : (Auteur) A hierarchical-based classification method was designed to develop time series land-use/land-cover datasets from Landsat images between 1977 and 2008 in Lucas do Rio Verde, Mato Grosso, Brazil. A post-classification comparison approach was used to examine land-use/land-cover change trajectories, which emphasis is on the conversions from vegetation or agropasture to impervious surface area, from vegetation to agropasture, and from agropasture to regenerat-ing vegetation. Results of this research indicated that increase in impervious surface area mainly resulted from the loss of cerrado in the initial decade of the study period and from loss of agricultural lands in the last two decades. Increase in agropasture was mainly at the expense of losing cerrado in the first two decades and relatively evenly from the loss of primary forest and cerrado in the last decade. When impervious surface area was less than approximately 40 km2 before 1999, impervious surface area was negatively related to cerrado and forest, and positively related to agropasture areas, but after impervious surface area reached 40 km2 in 1999, no obvious relationship exists between them. [Termes IGN] MalaisieRésumé : (Auteur) We analyzed the 10-year record (1999-2009) of SeaWinds Ku-band microwave backscatter from humid tropical forest regions in South America, Africa, and Indonesia/Malaysia. While backscatter was relatively stable across much of the region, it declined by 1-2 dB in areas of known large-scale deforestation, and increased by up to 1-2 dB in areas of secondary forest or plantation forest growth and in major metropolitan areas. The reduction in backscatter over 142 18.5 km * 18.5 km blocks of tropical forest was correlated with gross forest cover loss (as determined from Landsat data analysis) (R = -0.78); this correlation improved when restricted to humid tropical forest blocks in South America with high initial forest cover (R = -0.93, n = 22). This study shows that scatterometer-based analyses can provide an important geophysical data record leading to robust identification of the spatial patterns and timing of large-scale change in tropical forests. The coarse spatial resolution of SeaWinds ( ~ 10 km) makes it unsuitable for mapping deforestation at the scale of land-use activity. However, due to a combination of instrument stability, sensitivity to canopy change and insensitivity to atmospheric effects, and straight-forward data processing, Ku-band scatterometery can provide a fully independent assessment of large-scale tropical forest canopy dynamics which may complement the interpretation of higher resolution optical remote sensing. [Termes IGN] Tamil Nadu (Inde ; état)Résumé : (Auteur) This article reveals an application of multi-spectral satellite data for analysing the dynamics of different coastal landform features along the southern coastal Tamil Nadu of India. An integrated approach comprising visual image interpretation and maximum-likelihood supervised classification has been employed to classify the coastal landforms by using IRS data (during the period 1999–2006). The quality of image classification has been assessed by performing the accuracy assessments with the existing thematic maps and finally the coastal landforms have been mapped. The study reveals that the dynamics of coastal landforms such as sandy beaches, mud-flats, sand dunes and salt marshes along the study area are mostly influenced by the coastal processes, sediment transport, geomorphology and anthropogenic activities. Major anthropogenic sources for the perturbation of beach sediment budgets and a cause of beach erosion along the study area are excessive sand mining, removal of sand dunes, coastal urbanization, tourism and developmental activities. [Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The detection of multiple changes (i.e., different kinds of change) in multitemporal remote sensing images is a complex problem. When multispectral images having B spectral bands are considered, an effective solution to this problem is to exploit all available spectral channels in the framework of supervised or partially supervised approaches. However, in many real applications, it is difficult/impossible to collect ground truth information for either multitemporal or single-date images. On the opposite, unsupervised methods available in the literature are not effective in handling the full information present in multispectral and multitemporal images. They usually consider a simplified subspace of the original feature space having small dimensionality and, thus, characterized by a possible loss of change information. In this paper, we present a framework for the detection of multiple changes in bitemporal and multispectral remote sensing images that allows one to overcome the limits of standard unsupervised methods. The framework is based on the following: 1) a compressed yet efficient 2-D representation of the change information and 2) a two-step automatic decision strategy. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been tested on two bitemporal and multispectral data sets having different properties. Results obtained on both data sets confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
