[Termes IGN] modèle numérique de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) The objective of the present paper is to develop a new method for delineating lakes and enclosed islands from shuttle radar topography mission (SRTM) digital elevation model (DEM). The Thousand-Island Lake in China is chosen as the study site. DEM may have missing values or be inaccurate over water bodies. Thus, it is not trivial to delineate the shorelines of lake directly from DEM. We achieve this objective by overlaying the boundary derived from the Landsat image of the same area. Unlike traditional water body delineation techniques, e.g. the band ratio method, which make use of physical quantities, we only use the colour information from Landsat ETM+ band 7, 4 and 2. The main reason is that the colour information is the only resource available for most publicly available satellite data such as the maps from Google Earth. Thus, it is necessary to develop a method depending on only colour information. In the Landsat image, a discrimination function to determine whether a pixel belongs to the lake area is obtained by studying sample pixels chosen from the lake area. The delineation of shorelines is an evolutionary process. The evolution equation is derived according to the active contour model and the discrimination function. The initial contour is inside the lake and expands according to the evolution equation. The evolving curve converges to the boundaries of the lake efficiently with a satisfactory result. Finally, the shorelines are overlaid on the DEM according to latitude and longitude. Our geodesic active contour method is a general one, and could be used to delineate objects of interest such as oil slicks and burn scars in satellite images. [Termes IGN] trafic routierRésumé : (Auteur) For analyzing dynamic scenarios with many ground moving vehicles, airborne Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) radar is well-suited due to its wide-area, all-weather, day/night, and real time capabilities. The generation of GMTI tracks from these data is the backbone for ground surveillance and traffic flow analysis. In case of dense target situations, missing detections and false alarms, Multi-Hypotheses Tracking (MHT) is the method at choice to solve the inherent ambiguities in the data-targets assignment problem. The resulting MHT-tracks are suited to extract road map information which is highly up-to-date and fairly precise. Moreover, their accuracy is quantitatively described. The precision of the extracted road segments can be improved significantly using smoothed or retrodicted tracks. In turn, the extracted road information is exploited for the precise tracking of succeeding road targets. The proposed, fully Bayesian approach is illustrated by a simulated example including Doppler and terrain obscuration, providing hints to the achievable road map accuracies. [Termes IGN] trafic routierRésumé : (Auteur) Road extraction and vehicle detection are two of the most important steps of traffic flow analysis from multi-frame aerial photographs. The traditional way of deriving traffic flow trajectories relies on manual vehicle counting from a sequence of aerial photographs. It is tedious and time-consuming work. To improve this process, this research presents a new semi-automatic framework for highway extraction and vehicle detection from aerial photographs. The basis of the new framework is a geometric deformable model. This model refers to the minimization of an objective function that connects the optimization problem with the propagation of regular curves. Utilizing implicit representation of two-dimensional curve, the implementation of this model is capable of dealing with topological changes during curve deformation process and the output is independent of the position of the initial curves. A seed point propagation framework is designed and implemented. This framework incorporates highway extraction, tracking, and linking into one procedure. Manually selected seed points can be automatically propagated throughout a whole highway network. During the process, road center points are also extracted, which introduces a search direction for solving possible blocking problems. This new framework has been successfully applied to highway network extraction and vehicle detection from a large orthophoto mosaic. In this research, vehicles on the extracted highway network were detected with an 83% success rate. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) In a landscape bridges are ambiguous features in that they are extensions of the bare earth but they are also man made. Therefore, in a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) generation, depending on application it is necessary to keep or remove bridges. For this reason they have to be detected explicitly. A geometric bridge detection algorithm is proposed that is based on the idea that features can be detected in a landscape based on cross-sections (profiles) in a landscape. The topological information contained in the cross-sections are used to identify seed bridge points. The seed bridge points are then used to detect individual bridges. The bridge detection algorithm is novel in that the algorithm is blind to the shape of a bridge and is adaptable to different bridge designs. Therefore, bridges need not have parallel edges or uniform width. Furthermore, bridges can curve, split into parts, and contain holes. The bridge detection algorithm has been tested on various data sets and found to work very well in detecting bridges. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an absolute position estimation method using an Indian remote sensing (IRS) satellite images, which is a part of a position estimation system. The accumulated buffer (AB) matching method is proposed, in which a set of accumulator cells is employed for a fast edge-based matching between IRS satellite images and aerial images. The proposed algorithm is based on the accumulated buffer, which is a set of accumulator cells employed in the Hough transform widely used for robust detection of lines or curves. Thanks to the inherent robustness of the proposed algorithm, accurate registration can be accomplished between totally different image modalities. By computer simulations with two sets of real aerial image sequences, the performance of the AB matching method is analyzed and its effectiveness is shown in terms of the position error in the hybrid position estimation system. We found that the proposed AB matching method significantly reduces the average position error produced by the relative position estimation in the hybrid position estimation system.
