[Termes IGN] rivièreRésumé : (Auteur) The manual production of vector maps from digital imagery can be a time consuming and costly process. Developing tools to automate this task for specific features, such as roads, has become an important research topic. The purpose of this paper was to present a technique for the semi-automatic extraction of multiple pixel width river features appearing in high resolution satellite imagery. This was accomplished using a two stage, multi resolution procedure. Initial river extraction was performed on low resolution (SPOT multispectral 20 m) imagery. The results from this low resolution extraction were then refined on higher resolution (KFA 1000. panchromatic. 5m) imagery to produce a detailed outline of the channel banks. To perform low resolution extraction a cost surface was generated to represent the combined local evidence of the presence of a river feature. The local evidence of a river was evaluated based on the results of a number of simple operators. Then, with user specified start and end points for the network, rivers were extracted by performing a least cost path search across this surface using the A* algorithm. The low resolution results were transferred to the high resolution imagery as closed contours which provided an estimate of the channel banks. These contours were then fit to the channel banks using the dynamic contours (or snakes) technique. [Termes IGN] processeurRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a novel approach to semiautomatic building extraction in informal settlement areas from aerial photographs. The proposed approach uses a strategy of delineating buildings by optimising their approximate building contour position. Approximate building contours are derived automatically by locating elevation blobs in digital surface models. Building extraction is then effected by means of the snakes algorithm and the dynamic programming optimisation technique. With dynamic programming, the building contour optimisation problem is realized through a discrete multistage process and solved by the "timedelayed" algorithm, as developed in this work. The proposed building extraction approach is a semiautomatic process, with usercontrolled operations linking fully automated subprocesses. Inputs into the proposed building extraction system are orthoimages and digital surface models, the latter being generated through image matching techniques. Buildings are modeled as "lumps" or elevation blobs in digital surface models, which are derived by altimetric thresholding of digital surface models. Initial windows for building extraction are provided by projecting the elevation blobs centre points onto an orthoimage. In the next step, approximate building contours are extracted from the orthoimage by region growing constrained by edges. Approximate building contours thus derived are inputs into the dynamic programming optimisation process in which final building contours are established. The proposed system is tested on two study areas: Marconi Beam in Cape Town, South Africa, and Manzese in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Sixty percent of buildings in the study areas have been extracted and verified and it is concluded that the proposed approach contributes meaningfully to the extraction of buildings in moderately complex and crowded informal settlement areas. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) Changes in atmosphere, ground conditions, and sensor response between multitemporal airborne imaging sessions have limited the use of fixed target hyperspectral libraries in helping to identify targets in heterogeneous (cluttered) backgrounds. This hyperspectral target signature instability has resulted in using anomaly detection algorithms to detect targets in real time applications. The anomaly detection algorithms, however, have not detected targets at sufficiently low false alarm rates. This study examines mathematical transforms of target spectral signatures. Specifically this study uses statistical information regarding background clutter taken from one long-wave infrared (LWIR) hyperspectral (8-12jum) airborne imagery flown on one day, to find the target spectral signature flown on another day (with significantly dissimilar weather conditions). The transforms use overlapping regions in the two data sets but without subpixel level registration. This work analyzes image cubes collected during the November 1998 Hyperspectral Day/Night Radiometry Assessment (HYDRA) data collect. The transformed signatures used in matched filter searches successfully find targets (even targets nearly covered) with low false alarm rates ( Numéro de notice : A2002-178 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1109/TGRS.2002.1006361 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1109/TGRS.2002.1006361 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22093

[Termes IGN] restauration d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) An investigation of the application of 1 -m Ikonos satellite imagery to 3D point positioning and building reconstruction is reported. The focus of the evaluation of Geo panchromatic imagery has been upon 3D positioning accuracy, radiometric quality and attributes of the image data for building feature extraction. Following an initial review of characteristics of the Ikonos system, the multi-image dataset employed is described, as is the Melbourne Ikonos testfield. Radiometric quality and image preprocessing aspects are discussed, with attention being given to noise level and artifacts, as well as to methods of image enhancement. The results of 2D and 3D metric accuracy tests using straightforward geometric sensor models are summarised, these showing that planimetric accuracy of 0.3-0.6 m and height accuracy of 0.5-0.9 m are readily achievable with only three to six ground control points. A quantitative and qualitative assessment of the use of stereo Ikonos imagery for generating building models is then provided, using the campus of the University of Melbourne as an evaluation site. The results of this assessment are discussed, these highlighting the high accuracy potential of Ikonos Geo imagery and limitations to be considered in building reconstruction when a comprehensive and detailed modelling is required. [Termes IGN] séquence d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) The problem of cloud tracking within a sequence of geo-stationary satellite images has direct relevance to the analysis of cloud life cycles and to the detection of cloud motion vectors (CMVs). The proposed approach first identifies a homogeneous consistent cloud mass for tracking and then establishes motion correspondence within an image sequence. In contrast to the crosscorrelation based approach as adopted in automatic CNIV detection analysis, a scale space classifier is designed to detect cloud mass in the source image taken at time t and the destination image at time t + dt. Boundaries of the extracted cloud segments are matched by computing a correspondence between high curvature points. This shape based method is capable of tracking in the cases of rotation, scaling, and shearing, while the correlation technique is limited to translational motion. The final tracking results provide motion magnitude and direction for each contour point, allowing reliable estimation of meteorological events and wind velocities aloft. With comparable computational expense, the scale space classification technique exceeds the performance of the traditional correlation-based approach in terms of reduced localization error and false matches.
