[Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) High-resolution satellite imagery is considered an excellent candidate for extracting information about the human activities on Earth. The information about residential development and suburban area mapping is of interest that can be obtained from these images. Shadow of structures such as man-made buildings is one of the main cues for structure detection in panchromatic high-resolution satellite imagery. However, to correctly exploit the information of the shadow in an image, the shadow needs to be detected and isolated first. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for shadow detection and isolation of buildings in high-resolution panchromatic satellite imagery. The proposed algorithm is based on tailoring the traditional model of the geometric active contours such that the new model of the contours is systematically biased toward segmenting the shadow and the dark regions in the image. The systematic biasing in the proposed contour model is accomplished by novel encoding of the radiometric characteristics of the shadows regions. After detecting and segmenting the shadow and the dark regions in the image, further processing steps are introduced. The proposed postprocessing is based on selection of optimal threshold and a boundary complexity metric to distinguish the true shadows from the clutter. Experimental results are presented to validate the performance of the proposed algorithm on real high-resolution panchromatic satellite images. [Termes IGN] interpolationRésumé : (auteur) Automatic feature extraction domain has witnessed the application of many intelligent methodologies over past decade; however detection accuracy of these approaches were limited as object geometry and contextual knowledge were not given enough consideration. In this paper, we propose a frame work for accurate detection of features along with automatic interpolation, and interpretation by modelling feature shape as well as contextual knowledge using advanced techniques such as SVRF, Cellular Neural Network, Core set, and MACA. Developed methodology has been compared with contemporary methods using different statistical measures. Investigations over various satellite images revealed that considerable success was achieved with the CNN approach. CNN has been effective in modelling different complex features effectively and complexity of the approach has been considerably reduced using corset optimization. The system has dynamically used spectral and spatial information for representing contextual knowledge using CNN-prologue approach. System has been also proved to be effective in providing intelligent interpolation and interpretation of random features. [Termes IGN] plus proche voisin, algorithme duRésumé : (auteur) Roads and buildings constitute a significant proportion of urban areas. Considerable amount of research has been done on the road and building extraction from remotely sensed imagery. However, a few of them have been concentrating on using only spectral information. This study presents a comparison between three object-based models for urban features’ classification, specifically roads and buildings, from WorldView-2 satellite imagery. The three applied algorithms are support vector machines (SVMs), nearest neighbour (NN) and proposed rule-based system. The results indicated that the proposed rules in this study, despite the spectral complexity of land cover types, performed a satisfactory output with an overall accuracy of 92.92%. The advantages offered by the proposed rules were not provided by other two applied algorithms and it revealed the highest accuracy compared to SVM and NN. The overall accuracy for SVM was 76.76%, which is almost similar to the result achieved by NN (77.3%). [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur)We propose an automatic and robust approach to detect, segment and classify urban objects from 3D point clouds. Processing is carried out using elevation images and the result is reprojected onto the 3D point cloud. First, the ground is segmented and objects are detected as discontinuities on the ground. Then, connected objects are segmented using a watershed approach. Finally, objects are classified using SVM with geometrical and contextual features. Our methodology is evaluated on databases from Ohio (USA) and Paris (France). In the former, our method detects 98% of the objects, 78% of them are correctly segmented and 82% of the well-segmented objects are correctly classified. In the latter, our method leads to an improvement of about 15% on the classification step with respect to previous works. Quantitative results prove that our method not only provides a good performance but is also faster than other works reported in the literature.
