[Termes IGN] Normalized Difference Vegetation IndexRésumé : (Auteur) Building detection from remote sensed images is the main technique to monitor economic or environmental development of an area. Advanced Land Observing Satellite (alos) and SPOT data are reliable sources due to the limitation of weather, position, time, and other practical reasons. However, to the best of our knowledge, algorithms proposed in the identification of buildings mostly aim only at images with very high spatial resolution or high spectral resolution. There are few algorithms for detecting buildings from ALOS and SPOT data. A built-up detection index (BDI) is proposed in this paper to automatically identify buildings from images with 10 meters resolution. It synthesizes morphological theory and normalized differential vegetation index (NDVl) to enhance buildings by suppressing vegetation. Four images of ALOS and SPOT are used to verify the efficiency, stability and accuracy of BDI. Experiments show that BDI is suitable to detect buildings from 10 meters resolution with reliable accuracy. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) Buildings are regarded as the most prominent man-made objects: hence, their automatic extraction from aerial and satellite images has attracted the interest of photogrammetric research communities. In this paper, a balloon snake, a well-known active contour model, was developed for the precise extraction of building boundaries. Traditional active contours are highly sensitive to image data and are problematic when building boundaries are weakened, usually due to occlusions. To improve the efficiency of the traditional balloon snake model, a shape-based balloon snake model was introduced where knowledge about the expected geometrical shape of buildings was modelled and applied to the traditional snake representation. Implementation of the proposed algorithm confirmed its efficiency in the precise extraction of building boundaries. Experimental results and the qualitative and quantitative evaluations demonstrate the potential of the proposed shape-based balloon snake model and its superiority over traditional models. [Termes IGN] image hyperspectraleRésumé : (Auteur) Feature extraction is known to be an effective way in both reducing computational complexity and increasing accuracy of hyperspectral image classification. In this paper, a simple yet quite powerful feature extraction method based on image fusion and recursive filtering (IFRF) is proposed. First, the hyperspectral image is partitioned into multiple subsets of adjacent hyperspectral bands. Then, the bands in each subset are fused together by averaging, which is one of the simplest image fusion methods. Finally, the fused bands are processed with transform domain recursive filtering to get the resulting features for classification. Experiments are performed on different hyperspectral images, with the support vector machines (SVMs) serving as the classifier. By using the proposed method, the accuracy of the SVM classifier can be improved significantly. Furthermore, compared with other hyperspectral classification methods, the proposed IFRF method shows outstanding performance in terms of classification accuracy and computational efficiency.
