It presents two approaches for detecting 3D roof facets; the first one is based on the analysis of the 3D point cloud while the second one integrates aerial images. The extraction of lines from a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) point cloud is a difficult task since LiDAR points are randomly distributed over surfaces: depending on the point density, building edges are approximately delineated. Integrating aerial images with LiDAR data in a primitive detection process may highly enhance the resulting facets. Automatic mapping of urban areas from aerial images is a challenging task for scientists and surveyors because of the complexity of urban scenes. The chapter shows that searching for planar primitives in a LiDAR point cloud has limitations with regard to a joint use of aerial images and LiDAR data. [Termes IGN] prise en compte du contexteRésumé : (Auteur) A new algorithm based on the fusion of edge and multispectral information is proposed for the pixel-wise classification of very high-resolution (VHR) remotely sensed imagery. It integrates the multispectral, spatial and structural information existing in the image. The edge feature is first extracted using an improved multispectral edge detection method, which takes into account the original multispectral bands, the linear NDVI, and the independent spectral components extracted by independent component analysis (ICA). Direction-lines are then defined using the edge and multispectral information. Two effective spatial measures are calculated based on the direction-lines in order to describe the contextual information and strengthen the multispectral feature space. Then, the support vector machine (SVM) is employed to classify the hybrid structural-multispectral feature set. In experiments, the proposed spatial measures were compared with the pixel shape index (PSI) and the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM). The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs well in terms of classification accuracies and visual interpretation. [Termes IGN] squelettisationRésumé : (Auteur) Dans l'article, on présente une méthodologie visant à automatiser la généralisation des caractéristiques linéaires des données des images à l'aide d'un algorithme d'amincissement permettant de conserver la longueur. Les algorithmes d'amincissement traditionnels sur les données de trame produisent des squelettes erronés du contour d'un fleuve, dans l'estuaire et dans le périmètre des données d'entrée. Le squelette d'un fleuve devrait être relié à la mer par la ligne centrale de l'estuaire. Un problème connexe est celui de la réduction des squelettes causée par le processus de boundary-peeling. Dans l'article, on propose un algorithme d'amincissement permettant de conserver la longueur grâce à des procédures d'extraction de contours, de boundary-peeling, de grossissement du squelette et d'élimination du bruit. La procédure d'extraction des contours permet de trouver les contours d'un fleuve et de la mer, et elle élargit d'un pixel le périmètre des données d'entrée, ce qui évite les erreurs de squelette pour les contours de l'estuaire et le périmètre. La procédure de boundary-peeling produit un squelette réduit, et la procédure de grossissement du squelette étire ce squelette réduit jusqu'aux contours originaux du fleuve grâce à la direction du squelette. La procédure d'élimination du bruit enlève des sites isolés d'eau. Ce nouvel algorithme d'amincissement a été utilisé lors de la recherche pour extraire un squelette du fleuve Pascagoula au Mississippi.
