[Termes IGN] Normalized Difference Vegetation IndexRésumé : (Auteur) Building detection from remote sensed images is the main technique to monitor economic or environmental development of an area. Advanced Land Observing Satellite (alos) and SPOT data are reliable sources due to the limitation of weather, position, time, and other practical reasons. However, to the best of our knowledge, algorithms proposed in the identification of buildings mostly aim only at images with very high spatial resolution or high spectral resolution. There are few algorithms for detecting buildings from ALOS and SPOT data. A built-up detection index (BDI) is proposed in this paper to automatically identify buildings from images with 10 meters resolution. It synthesizes morphological theory and normalized differential vegetation index (NDVl) to enhance buildings by suppressing vegetation. Four images of ALOS and SPOT are used to verify the efficiency, stability and accuracy of BDI. Experiments show that BDI is suitable to detect buildings from 10 meters resolution with reliable accuracy. [Termes IGN] réflectance végétaleRésumé : (Auteur) Accurate and timely identification of crop types has significant economic, agricultural, policy, and environmental applications. The existing remote sensing methods to identify crop types rely on remotely sensed images of high temporal frequency in order to utilize phenological changes in crop reflectance characteristics. However, these image sets generally have relatively low spatial resolution. This tradeoff makes it difficult to classify remotely sensed images in fragmented landscapes where field sizes are smaller than the resolution of imaging sensor. Here, we develop a method for combining high spatial resolution (high-resolution) data with images with low spatial resolution but with high time frequency to achieve a superior classification of crop types. The solution is implemented and tested on both synthetic and real data sets as a proof of concept. We show that, by incorporating high-temporal-frequency but low spatial resolution data into the classification process, up to 20% of improvement in classification accuracy can be achieved even if very few high-resolution images are available for a location. This boost in accuracy is roughly equivalent to including an additional high-resolution image to the temporal stack during the classification process. The limitations of the current algorithm include computational performance and the need for ideal crop curves. Nevertheless, the resulting boost in accuracy can help researchers create superior crop type classification maps, thereby creating the opportunity to make more informed decisions. [Termes IGN] image hyperspectraleRésumé : (Auteur) The one-against-one (OAO) strategy is commonly employed with classifiers-such as support vector machines-which inherently provide binary two-class classification in order to handle multiple classes. This OAO strategy is introduced for the classification of hyperspectral imagery using discriminant analysis within kernel-induced feature spaces, producing a pair of algorithms-kernel discriminant analysis and kernel local Fisher discriminant analysis-for dimensionality reduction, which are followed by a quadratic Gaussian maximum-likelihood-estimation classifier. In the proposed approach, a multiclass problem is broken down into all possible binary classifiers, and various decision-fusion rules are considered for merging results from this classifier ensemble. Experimental results using several hyperspectral data sets demonstrate the benefits of the proposed approach-in addition to improved classification performance, the resulting classifier framework requires reduced memory for estimating kernel matrices. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Urban areas consist of spectrally and spatially heterogeneous features. Advanced information extraction techniques are needed to handle high resolution imageries in providing detailed information for urban planning applications. This study was conducted to identify a technique that accurately maps impervious and pervious surfaces from WorldView-2 (WV-2) imagery. Supervised per-pixel classification algorithms including Maximum Likelihood and Support Vector Machine (SVM) were utilized to evaluate the capability of spectral-based classifiers to classify urban features. Object-oriented classification was performed using supervised SVM and fuzzy rule-based approach to add spatial and texture attributes to spectral information. Supervised object-oriented SVM achieved 82.80% overall accuracy which was the better accuracy compared to supervised per-pixel classifiers. Classification based on the proposed fuzzy rule-based system revealed satisfactory output compared to other classification techniques with an overall accuracy of 87.10% for pervious surfaces and an overall accuracy of 85.19% for impervious surfaces.
