[Termes IGN] zone d'intérêtRésumé : (auteur) The visual similarity of oil slick and other elements, known as look-alike, affects the reliability of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images for marine oil spill detection. So far, detection and discrimination of oil spill and look-alike are still limited to the use of traditional machine learning algorithms and semantic segmentation deep learning models with limited accuracy. Thus, this study developed a novel deep learning oil spill detection model using computer vision instance segmentation Mask-Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Mask R-CNN) model. The model training was conducted using transfer learning on the ResNet 101 on COCO as backbone in combination with Feature Pyramid Network (FPN) architecture for feature extraction at 30 epochs with 0.001 learning rate. Testing of the model was conducted using the least training and validation loss value on the withheld testing images. The model’s performance was evaluated using precision, recall, specificity, IoU, F1-measure and overall accuracy values. Ship detection and segmentation had the highest performance with overall accuracy of 98.3%. The model equally showed a higher accuracy for oil spill and look-alike detection and segmentation although oil spill detection outperformed look-alike with overall accuracy values of 96.6% and 91.0% respectively. The study concluded that the deep learning instance segmentation model performs better than conventional machine learning models and deep learning semantic segmentation models in detection and segmentation. [Termes IGN] saillanceRésumé : (auteur) Recent deep learning-based methods for saliency detection have proved the effectiveness of integrating features with different scales. They usually design various complex architectures of network, e.g., multiple networks, to explore the multi-scale information of images, which is expensive in computation and memory. Feature maps produced with different subsampling convolutional layers have different spatial resolutions; therefore, they can be used as the multi-scale features to reduce the costs. In this paper, by exploiting the in-network feature hierarchy of convolutional networks, we propose a novel multi-scale network for saliency detection (MSNSD) consisting of three modules, i.e., bottom-up feature extraction, top-down feature connection and multi-scale saliency prediction. Moreover, to further boost the performance of MSNSD, an input image-aware saliency aggregation method is proposed based on the ridge regression, which combines MSNSD with some well-performed handcrafted shallow models. Extensive experiments on several benchmarks show that the proposed MSNSD outperforms the state-of-the-art saliency methods with less computational and memory complexity. Meanwhile, our aggregation method for saliency detection is effective and efficient to combine deep and shallow models and make them complementary to each other. [Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Though Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) has the advantage of providing free open spatial data, it is prone to vandalism, which may heavily decrease the quality of these data. Therefore, detecting vandalism in VGI may constitute a first way of assessing the data in order to improve their quality. This article explores the ability of supervised machine learning approaches to detect vandalism in OpenStreetMap (OSM) in an automated way. For this purpose, our work includes the construction of a corpus of vandalism data, given that no OSM vandalism corpus is available so far. Then, we investigate the ability of random forest methods to detect vandalism on the created corpus. Experimental results show that random forest classifiers perform well in detecting vandalism in the same geographical regions that were used for training the model and has more issues with vandalism detection in “unfamiliar regions”. However, many current methods cannot fully utilize spatial information and have trouble efficiently dealing with topographic data with high complexity. The design of intelligent computational models that can act directly on topographic data to extract spatial features is critical. To this end, we propose a novel deep neural network based on graph convolutions to automatically identify building group patterns with arbitrary forms. The method first models buildings by a general graph, and then the neural network simultaneously learns the structural information as well as vertex attributes to classify building objects. We apply this method to real building data, and the experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively capture spatial information to make more accurate predictions than traditional methods. [Termes IGN] tracé routierRésumé : (auteur) Cycling lane centerlines (CLC) play an important role in the evaluation of safety-related conditions and guiding systems for cyclists along road corridors. The unavailability of design files or undocumented changes in the road infrastructures after improvements has created great difficulty in delineating CLC on existing roads. In this study, mobile laser scanning (MLS) data are introduced into this domain and a four-step semi-automated framework is proposed for generating CLC on roads with roadside barriers (RB). First, MLS data are restructured into the aligned scan-pattern grid using the mapping trajectory data. Second, a rasterization-based clustering approach is applied to segment the off-ground objects from the reorganized MLS data. Third, the RB amongst the segmented objects are identified using a sequential application of the k-Means clustering method and the proposed unidirectional growing method. Finally, the moving average technique and natural cubic spline are applied to generate CLC from the critical positions alongside the identified RB. Testing on three road sections with different types of RB demonstrated that the developed framework can successfully generate CLC from MLS data in the presence of considerable noises. The results also show that the proposed procedure shows better accuracy performance on processing roads with wide RB than a road with narrow RB.
