[Termes IGN] voyageRésumé : (auteur) The abilities to predict tourist movements are critical to many urban applications, such as travel recommendations, targeted advertising, and infrastructure planning. Despite its importance, our understanding on the movement predictability of urban tourists and visitors is still limited, partially due to difficulties in accessing large scale mobility observations. In this study, we aim to bridge this gap by analyzing a nationwide mobile phone dataset. The dataset captures movement traces of a large number of international travelers who visited South Korea in 2018. By introducing two prediction models, one being Markov chain and the other with a recurrent neural network architecture, we assess how well travelers’ movements can be predicted under different model settings, and examine how predictability relates to travelers’ length of stay and activeness in travel patterns. Since travelers’ destination choices are quite diverse in South Korea, this enables us to further investigate the geographic variation of the models’ performance. Results show that the Markov chain model achieves an overall accuracy between 33.4% (@Acc1 metric) and 64.2% (@Acc5 metric), compared to 41.9% (@Acc1) and 67.7% (@Acc5) for the recurrent neural network model. The prediction capabilities of both models are largely unequal across individuals, with active travelers being more predictable in general. There is a notable geographic variation in the models’ performance, meaning that travelers’ movements are more predictable in some cities, but less in others. We believe this study represents a new effort in portraying the movement predictability of urban tourists and visitors. The analytical framework can be applied to assist tourism planning and service deployment in cities. [Termes IGN] ville durableRésumé : (auteur) Road noise barriers (RNBs) are important urban infrastructures to relieve the harm of traffic noise pollution for citizens. Therefore, obtaining the spatial distribution characteristics of RNBs, such as precise positions and mileage, can be of great help for obtaining more accurate urban noise maps and assessing the quality of the urban living environment for sustainable urban development. However, an effective and efficient method for identifying RNBs and acquiring their attributes in large areas is scarce. This study constructs an ensemble classification model (ECM) to automatically identify RNBs at the city level based on Baidu Street View (BSV). Firstly, the bootstrap sampling method is proposed to build a street view image-based train set, where the effect of imbalanced categories of samples was reduced by adding confusing negative samples. Secondly, two state-of-the-art deep learning models, ResNet and DenseNet, are ensembled to construct an ECM based on the bagging framework. Finally, a post-processing method has been proposed based on geospatial analysis to eliminate street view images (SVIs) that are misclassified as RNBs. This study takes Suzhou, China as the study area to validate the proposed method. The model achieved an accuracy and F1-score of 0.98 and 0.90, respectively. The total mileage of the RNBs in Suzhou was 178,919 m. The results demonstrated the performance of the proposed RNBs identification framework. The significance of obtaining RNBs attributes for accelerating sustainable urban development has been demonstrated through the case of photovoltaic noise barriers (PVNBs). [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) The so-called “attention mechanisms” in Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) denote an automatic adaptation of DNNs to capture representative features given a specific classification task and related data. Such attention mechanisms perform both globally by reinforcing feature channels and locally by stressing features in each feature map. Channel and feature importance are learnt in the global end-to-end DNNs training process. In this paper, we present a study and propose a method with a different approach, adding supplementary visual data next to training images. We use human visual attention maps obtained independently with psycho-visual experiments, both in task-driven or in free viewing conditions, or powerful models for prediction of visual attention maps. We add visual attention maps as new data alongside images, thus introducing human visual attention into the DNNs training and compare it with both global and local automatic attention mechanisms. Experimental results show that known attention mechanisms in DNNs work pretty much as human visual attention, but still the proposed approach allows a faster convergence and better performance in image classification tasks. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (auteur) High-resolution UAV imagery paired with a convolutional neural network approach offers significant advantages in accurately measuring forestry ecosystems. Despite numerous studies existing for individual tree crown delineation, species classification, and quantity detection, the comprehensive situation in performing the above tasks simultaneously has rarely been explored, especially in mixed forests. In this study, we propose a new method for individual tree segmentation and identification based on the improved Mask R-CNN. For the optimized network, the fusion type in the feature pyramid network is modified from down-top to top-down to shorten the feature acquisition path among the different levels. Meanwhile, a boundary-weighted loss module is introduced to the cross-entropy loss function Lmask to refine the target loss. All geometric parameters (contour, the center of gravity and area) associated with canopies ultimately are extracted from the mask by a boundary segmentation algorithm. The results showed that F1-score and mAP for coniferous species were higher than 90%, and that of broadleaf species were located between 75%–85.44%. The producer’s accuracy of coniferous forests was distributed between 0.8–0.95 and that of broadleaf ranged in 0.87–0.93; user’s accuracy of coniferous was distributed between 0.81–0.84 and that of broadleaf ranged in 0.71–0.76. The total number of trees predicted was 50,041 for the entire study area, with an overall error of 5.11%. The method under study is compared with other networks including U-net and YOLOv3. Results in this study show that the improved Mask R-CNN has more advantages in broadleaf canopy segmentation and number detection. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) This study aimed to simulate and assess forest cover and land use/land cover (LULC) changes between 2019 and 2039 using the cellular automata-Markov model. The performance of the model was evaluated by comparing the 2019 simulation map with the 2019 supervised classified map, and it was found to be reliable, with a similarity rate of 85.43%. The LULC analysis and estimates were carried out for a total of six classes: coniferous, broad-leaf, mixed forest, settlement, water and agriculture. Between 1999 and 2019, the areas of total forest increased by 17.4%, settlement by 84.6% and water by 20.1%, whereas the agriculture area decreased by 33.2%. According to 2019‒2039 land use/cover simulation results, there were decreases of 2.4% in total forest area and 3.7% in residential and water surface areas, but a 6.9% decrease in the agriculture class. Tracking these changes will contribute to decision making and strategy development efforts of forest planners and managers.
