[Termes IGN] synthèse d'imageRésumé : (auteur) Despite the great success of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) in synthesizing images, there lacks enough understanding of how photo-realistic images are generated from the layer-wise stochastic latent codes introduced in recent GANs. In this work, we show that highly-structured semantic hierarchy emerges in the deep generative representations from the state-of-the-art GANs like StyleGAN and BigGAN, trained for scene synthesis. By probing the per-layer representation with a broad set of semantics at different abstraction levels, we manage to quantify the causality between the layer-wise activations and the semantics occurring in the output image. Such a quantification identifies the human-understandable variation factors that can be further used to steer the generation process, such as changing the lighting condition and varying the viewpoint of the scene. Extensive qualitative and quantitative results suggest that the generative representations learned by the GANs with layer-wise latent codes are specialized to synthesize various concepts in a hierarchical manner: the early layers tend to determine the spatial layout, the middle layers control the categorical objects, and the later layers render the scene attributes as well as the color scheme. Identifying such a set of steerable variation factors facilitates high-fidelity scene editing based on well-learned GAN models without any retraining (code and demo video are available at https://genforce.github.io/higan). [Termes IGN] voxelRésumé : (auteur) The need for fine scale description of vegetation structure is increasing as Leaf Area Density (LAD, m2/m3) becomes a critical parameter to understand ecosystem functioning and energy and mass fluxes in heterogeneous ecosystems. Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) has shown great potential for retrieving the foliage area at stand, plant or voxel scales. Several sources of measurement errors have been identified and corrected over the past years. However, measurements remain sensitive to several factors, including, 1) voxel size and vegetation structure within voxels, 2) heterogeneity in sampling from TLS instrument (occlusion and shooting pattern), the consequences of which have been seldom analyzed at the scale of forest plots. In the present paper, we aimed at disentangling biases and errors in plot-scale measurements of LAD with TLS in a simulated vegetation scene. Two negative biases were formerly attributed to (i) the unsampled voxels and to (ii) the subgrid vegetation heterogeneity (i.e. clumping effect), and then quantified, thanks to a the simulation experiment providing known LAD references at voxel scale, vegetation manipulations and unbiased point estimators. We used confidence intervals to evaluate voxel-scale measurement accuracy. [Termes IGN] surveillance hydrologiqueRésumé : (auteur) Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) time series acquired by a geodetic antenna were analyzed to retrieve water heights during asymmetric tides on a narrow river using the Interference Pattern Technique (IPT) from Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (GNSS-R). The dynamic SNR method was selected because the elevation rate of the reflecting surface during rising tides is high in the Garonne River with macro tidal conditions. A new process was developed to filter out the noise introduced by the environmental conditions on the reflected signal due to the narrowness of the river compared to the size of the Fresnel areas, the presence of vegetation on the river banks, and the presence of boats causing multiple reflections. This process involved the removal of multipeaks in the Lomb-Scargle Periodogram (LSP) output and an iterative least square estimation (LSE) of the output heights. Evaluation of the results was performed against pressure-derived water heights. The best results were obtained using all GNSS bands (L1, L2, and L5) simultaneously: R = 0.99, ubRMSD = 0.31 m. We showed that the quality of the retrieved heights was consistent, whatever the vertical velocity of the reflecting surface, and was highly dependent on the number of satellites visible. The sampling period of our solution was 1 min with a 5-min moving window, and no tide models or fit were used in the inversion process. This highlights the potential of the dynamic SNR method to detect and monitor extreme events with GNSS-R, including those affecting inland waters such as flash floods. [Termes IGN] tomographieRésumé : (auteur) Over recent years, many approaches have been proposed for the denoising or semantic segmentation of X-ray computed tomography (CT) scans. In most cases, high-quality CT reconstructions are used; however, such reconstructions are not always available. When the X-ray exposure time has to be limited, undersampled tomograms (in terms of their component projections) are attained. This low number of projections offers low-quality reconstructions that are difficult to segment. Here, we consider CT time-series (i.e. 4D data), where the limited time for capturing fast-occurring temporal events results in the time-series tomograms being necessarily undersampled. Fortunately, in these collections, it is common practice to obtain representative highly sampled tomograms before or after the time-critical portion of the experiment. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end network that can learn to denoise and segment the time-series’ undersampled CTs, by training with the earlier highly sampled representative CTs. Our single network can offer two desired outputs while only training once, with the denoised output improving the accuracy of the final segmentation. Our method is able to outperform state-of-the-art methods in the task of semantic segmentation and offer comparable results in regard to denoising. Additionally, we propose a knowledge transfer scheme using synthetic tomograms. This not only allows accurate segmentation and denoising using less real-world data, but also increases segmentation accuracy. Finally, we make our datasets, as well as the code, publicly available. [Termes IGN] véhicule automobileRésumé : (auteur) Photogrammetric mesh models obtained from aerial oblique images have been widely used for urban reconstruction. However, photogrammetric meshes suffer from severe texture problems, particularly in typical road areas, owing to occlusion. This paper proposes a structure-aware completion approach to improve mesh quality by seamlessly removing undesired vehicles. Specifically, a discontinuous texture atlas is first integrated into a continuous screen space by rendering trough a graphics pipeline. The rendering also records the necessary mapping for deintegration to the original texture atlas after editing. Vehicle regions are masked by a standard object detection approach, namely, Faster RCNN. Subsequently, the masked regions are completed, guided by the linear structures and regularities in the road region; this is implemented based on PatchMatch. Finally, the completed rendered image is deintegrated to the original texture atlas, and the triangles for the vehicles are also flattened so that improved meshes can be obtained. Experimental evaluation and analysis are conducted on three datasets, which were captured with different sensors and ground sample distances. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can produce quite realistic meshes after removing the vehicles. The structure-aware completion approach for road regions outperforms popular image completion methods, and an ablation study further confirms the effectiveness of the linear guidance. It should be noted that the proposed method can also handle tiled mesh models for large-scale scenes. Code and datasets are available at the project website.
